Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

As some of you know my door got a "little" messed up ( http://www.planet-9.com/showthread.php?t=8730&highlight=sapple89 ) i ordered my new shell, and i was wondering if you need to disconnect the battery if your swaping doors. from what i heard is you need to disable the airbags and alarm system... is this true. do they even need to mess with the battery?

POST 2Original post

They will probably disconnect the battery as a standard procedure item when swapping an entire door because they have to separate the wiring harness and re-attach it to the new door.

POST 3Original post

is it possible to leave the battery in? i dont want them to take it out because a close family member told me the only one who can reset the computer( alarm/airbags) is the dealer. -sean

POST 5Original post

Why don't you call the dealer's service dept. and ask? I do think you want to disconnect the battery - it will keep you from frying the electronics in your car in case a short happens. I don't know for sure if all the memory goes away when the battery is disconnected - it probably depends on how long the battery is disconnected. If things need to be reset, then yes, generally speaking you need a PIWIS to do that, and generally speaking only dealers and high-end Porsche shops will have them because they (PIWIS) cost a bunch of money. Again, call your dealer's service dept. and ask - they'll know. brad

POST 6Original post

Since this is your second time what did they do before?

POST 7Original post

for the 1st dollar size dent. they saved the door by drilling three wholes and pulling it out. then filling it with led or something like that. the pannel was never removed. i will be calling my service dept soon
