2003 Navteq mapping database, which is still current in new cars, which I verified by checking a brand new Cayman in the OPC showroom.

My other option being to change the car, which I was going to keep until the panamera arrives which I have on order.

My research has all come back negative due to the fact of having the BOSE system with the fibre optics with the only suggestion to replace the wiring and amplifiers.

They are still saying my only option is to replace the wiring and BOSE amps which seems senseless to me.

So it would be wise to verify accuracy of supplied maps compared to 2006 Navteq versions, which is used by Tom Tom..

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

What I would like to know, is it possible to upgrade the cdr-23 head unit with an aftermarket Alpine or Pioneer motorized touchscreen sat nav system. My research has all come back negative due to the fact of having the BOSE system with the fibre optics with the only suggestion to replace the wiring and amplifiers. Although not terribly impressed with the BOSE I see no real reason to rip it out and start again, and don't want to spend thousands doing it either! I also haven't found a OPC who wants to put the standard PCM in for me either due to the same reasons although the PCM appears to be a retrofit option on the porsche website. Probably don't want this option in any case now as I have read in the forum that the PCM is outdated in comparison to the new kit in the market.
can anyone help?
I am led to believe that Alpine are in fact developing a motorised head unit etc. which is compatible with the MOST fibre optic bus systems as fitted to Porsches and some other manufacturers. I can't remember where I read this but will have a dig around to see what I can find out. Suggest you try similar enquiries.
Thanks Geoff, after talking to my local car radio centre after researching the unit you suggested they told me that it is designed for improving cars already with the built in screens, which I do not have. They are still saying my only option is to replace the wiring and BOSE amps which seems senseless to me. They have told me about a new pioneer portable sat nav system, called an AVIC S1 which is due out this month and fixes to the car windscreen. They expect this to be very sucessful and better alternative to the Tom Tom units etc. for people looking for premier sat nav, but not wanting a windscreen mount we shall see.

I believe that Pioneer do not use Navteq mapping database. So it would be wise to verify accuracy of supplied maps compared to 2006 Navteq versions, which is used by Tom Tom..
Thanks for that Geoff, I will check that out. I haven't given up on the Alpine kit too so i'm going to check it out further with another centre for a scond opinion to see if the adaptor will work with the bose system.
How impressed with the 997 's' ? My other option being to change the car, which I was going to keep until the panamera arrives which I have on order. I think the turbo is fabulous all rounder but I do like the look of the 997 which I feel may fair better on depreciation too. Only seen pics of the new turbo which didn't impress me.
I Love my 997S to bits, except for the poor Sat Nav.

Crazy price of upgrade to enable TMC and Post code search, of which the latter doesn't work! (only first 4 digits, very useful NOT).
So your aftermarket route is the way to go IMHO.
