I will check with NordStern to see, had not thought of that!

I’ll look into the PCA recommended shops first but I may have to live with it.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
16 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.
1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

That worked waaaay better than I expected and was very easy to use (just don’t press down when wiping the excess).
After 85,000 miles and more than a few adventures my black over grey 996 cab is needing a respray. Looking for any recommendations from the community on a good option in the Minneapolis MN metro if possible. Thank you to anyone with an idea for me.
What are your expectations?
I don't know about your area, but Porsche paint is amazing! Getting ANYONE to do as good a job as Porsche will cost you mucho dinero!
Do you have any photos of the car? Also, are you planning to respray the whole car? The paint used on the 996 is actually quite hard and can stand up to a lot of polishing so depending on the current condition, I would explore doing a full 2 step paint correction first. It will not make it new but you may be surprised by what can by accomplished by it plus some touch up paint. Do keep in mind, that if you plan to repaint the car you want to do the whole thing. Painting certain panels and not others may show, especially on a black car. I was able to achieve some amazing results working on my friends black C4S that get's driven a lot. I'd like to think we got it back to about 85 - 90% back to new after about a week of work. I can't imagine a full respray being less that $5k vs a few hundred bucks we spent on compound, polish, pads, ceramic coating and beer (obviously).
Check with your local PCA. Porsche/PCA has designated certain paint body shops. Don't know what they have to do to be designated nor if they are the best, but it's a starting point. Also check with local indys, they always have a recomendation.
This right here. I want a perfect job done on my 996 but because it's stupid expensive I've decided to wrap my car. That way I keep the original color but will drive it in Guard's Red while I own it.
My 99 C4 needs some minor repairs to the front bumper and then paint . My hood has two small dents needing some attention then paint . Local paint shop in business since the 70's gave me a quote of $1600.00 . I will be dropping off the car in January .
Thank you everyone for the advice. I will look into the collision centers as well as asking my indie if they have any ideas. I have considered a wrap but the base paint is too much in need of work to not do something. My local indie does do 2 step correction so I will inquire about that while I investigate paint shops. I really appreciate all the help from you guys!
As someone who used to own a bodyshop I can honestly say that a full, good, respray may not be worth the investment. Bumpers off, lights off, trim off, windows out, prep, scuff, shoot, clear, buff will be at a minimum $8000-$10,000(this was with me selling my shop eight years ago). This was back in the day when I billed $48 per hour for body and $28 per hour for paint. Since paint, labor and whatnot has gone through the roof you are probably more like $14000. The biggest problem you will find is quality. I sold my shop to one of the big three when they were in a rat race to buy any existing shop with a pulse they could find. I was one of two Tesla certified shops in the country when the roadster came out, Lamborghini certified, Bentley certified, Audi Certified, GTR certified as well as a few others including Fiskers which were the were the worst cars in the world to paint. Back then, my guys loved putting out good product because we would see the cars at a local meet or show. Unfortunately in the bodyshop world that pride of work is no longer with us. Paint is an art, which is only perfected by its final buff. A good buffer can save almost anything.
With all this being said, the company that originally bought me was started in Minnesota.
if you would like I can make some calls as to who can paint well in your area.
Almost all shops are commission base these days(I was not). If you can find a shop that bills hourly you will pay a few more bucks but will get a better end result.
Good luck.
Thank you for the offer Jet55, I’m rethinking a respray at that price point unfortunately. I love the car but maybe a correction is the best I can justify. I’ll look into the PCA recommended shops first but I may have to live with it. Thanks again everyone for the advice!
I’m in Myrtle beach. My paint was in good shape. Mostly swirl marks from the previous owner
2 step-$650
3 step- $950
ceramic coat on top had a huge variation, like 250-1000 depending on warranty (and probably marketing ).
I spent 1400 for 3 step and a 5 year ceramic. Came out great. My contractor is a big car guy and he thought I got a new paint job.
I did the Doctor color chip prior to the correction. That worked waaaay better than I expected and was very easy to use (just don’t press down when wiping the excess). Got rid of all the bad road rash. From 2-3 feet you can’t see it. Closer…its there but not enough to bug me
