Got a Toad alarm/immob on mine- uses the same flashing diode thingies on the door locks, all works from the fob, so no extra fiddling with transponders etc for the immob.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

As a recent, happy recipient of my first Porsche, I am looking to add a spare alarm fob-immobiliser and set of keys as a back up and for my wife to use. The car came with just the one fob and no "
Red Master
". I'm told that in order to add new ones I will need a new circuit board in the car and 3 new fobs (one being the new Red Master). Fine and well but I'm also told to expect a bill of about £380. I never expected Porsche ownership to be cheap but that does seem a bit stiff just in order to have a spare set of keys. Any suggestions welcomed.

Welcome Mr M...
I read at the weekend that a new key for an Alfa spyder costs £1000 so £380 seems reasonable!
Alternatively, I'd suggest junking the porsche system and buying an aftermarket alarm. May save you money on your
insurance
too, if it has latest immobiliser etc.
Cheers
R.

You might be able to get the existing fob 'cloned' by one of the specialists. It can sometimes be done but a bit of a black art.
Other than that getting a new master is the only option. Unfortunately the red master is rather important and not cheap to replace.

Thanks for the info. Do you know of a "fob cloner"? Has anyone any experience or can recommend a 3rd party system?

Dunno what it cost as the previous owner fitted it...

JZ Machtech did mine: Two new keys; two new remotes; one new red master, and the whole lot was only about £200 and kept it as original equipment too!

This may sound over the top but there is no way I would buy any car with only one key. One of the signs of a car being a ringer is one key being sold with the car. If I were you Id get the whole lot and re-coded aswell. Whoever has the other key can basically come at take your car whenever. Im alsopretty sure that
insurance
will want all your keys if it was stolen.

Hi there,
Give Hamilton & Palmer a call. These guys did all the alarms for UK 993's.
They just stuck a Porsche PA1000 on my RS. Excellent service and not unreasonable cost.
They are in Sevenoaks, Kent, not far from the M25. Their number is 01732 760022.

They do - but if the car is stolen using a key and they did not break into your house to get it, I think you might have problems with the
insurance
company. Better safe than sorry on this. When you get your porsche, you should get all 3 keys.

I've got it now...and only 1 key. The previous owner said he only ever had one too. Must have been lost previous to him.
Porsche (Swindon) quoted me £220 for a duplicate (remap? :? )
I'm a bit annoyed it didn't get picked up in the PPI - should it have?
