Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. 356N - It's full when the top large segment is filled - there's a line that comes out to the right of the display that indicates the full mark.
Leading evidence: 'Fill there's a line' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill there's a line' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

So, when you are at the top of the three biggest segments, is that full or is full lnot actually reached until you fill the thin segment at the top (the fifth segment)?

When I questioned them about that not being recommended, I was told that you would have to overfill the car by 2 quarts or more to "harm" anything.

I tried telling the dealer to only change the oil, BUT, they only offer a minor, annual service, which inspects break wear, tire wear, fluid levels, and for leaks.

I've never added oil (did change oil, though), but if you add a whole quart from barely two marks down from full, it may even be sufficient to overfill.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I did a search and didn't find exactly the info I am looking for so I am going to ask.
So lets say the oil level indicator has 5 segments (I forget exactly how many there are and I am not sitting in the car at the moment). When I took delivery of the car just about a month ago 3 segments were filled in. Today 3 segments are still filled in.
If I wanted to add some Mobil 1 how much oil, e.g. a quart, equates to a segment?
I'd prefer to have 4 out of the 5 segements filled in to only having 3 filled in.
Thank you for any insight.
Mike
I've never added oil (did change oil, though), but if you add a whole quart from barely two marks down from full, it may even be sufficient to overfill. From 2 marks down, I'd add about 1/3 quart to see if that brings it up one mark; right where I'd want it. BTW, when I changed oil, I only added back 7 quarts of fresh oil; enough to get it to one mark down from full.
According to the manual, each segment is .4 liters, which = 0.42267528 qt. It's not unusual for your car to not need oil - it depends on how many miles you have on the car, you didn't say - but in three months that's not unusual. If you want to add some, add about a 1/2 qt. at a time, and take another measurement in between. Don't start the car, or you'll wait a long time for the measurement to happen. Use only 0-40w.

going-cayman:
If you notice a quart bottle of 0W-40 Mobil 1 it will have milliliters and ounces marked off on one side. Add 200 ml and see what occurs. Then add 100 at a time until you just reach full(the 4th bar). Stop and leave well enough alone. BTW, my CS stays at mid mark, the 3rd bar(of 5) up like yours. I don't worry about it.
Just curious do you guys go to Porsche service (=$$$$$) or independent service station for oil change? If you go to Jiffy lube type place can they do it right?
CAK: For just an oil change I take mine to one of my two favorite independent shops. As you indicated, the cost difference is significant. I don't take any of my cars to Jiffy Lube, although there are probably some people at some Jiffys that do just as good a job, assuming they have Mobil 1 0W-40 and are willing to allow the oil to drain long enough (the "Jiffy" part suggests that speed is important to them).
My question is about how many segments there are to the measure graphic. Are there three or five? It appears that there are five segments, three thick ones in the middle and one thin at top and bottom. So, when you are at the top of the three biggest segments, is that full or is full lnot actually reached until you fill the thin segment at the top (the fifth segment)?
Jim is correct! The cost for an oil change can be quite large as I experienced a few weeks ago. I never added any oil, and changed it at 2300 miles.

I've written this before in other "oil change" threads, but if you
do
use the dealer for an oil change, specifically tell them all you want is the oil and filter change, and that you DO NOT want the low-mileage service. If you don't they'll do all the inspections, etc. for the low mileage service and the bill will be $300 or so. With my PCA discount, my oil and filter change at the dealer here in LV was $123 - which was actually less than the two very-reputable local independent shops. And they still gave me a report on brake pad and tire wear and a general overall inspection evaluation. Maybe that's the economics of Las Vegas at play - the dealer seems to be very reasonably priced compared to what I'm used to coming from the SF Bay Area.

356N - It's full when the top large segment is filled - there's a line that comes out to the right of the display that indicates the full mark. If you're above the line, you've over-filled it. Hate to say this but - page 110 in your owner's manual (hmmmmm, what's that?) tells all.

I just had my oil changed 9200 miles. I was waiting until 10,000 but had to deal with a flat.
I tried telling the dealer to only change the oil, BUT, they only offer a minor, annual service, which inspects break wear, tire wear, fluid levels, and for leaks. It cost $325 and there was no way around it.
The also put more oil in my car than they were supposed to - the invice said 10 quarts. They really put in some amount over 9 quarts.
It made the indicator show above full. When I questioned them about that not being recommended, I was told that you would have to overfill the car by 2 quarts or more to "harm" anything. Nevertheless, the removed some of the overage. And the indicator still is over full.
Larry - Sorry to hear that - is that the dealer in Walnut Creek? I have to say, the folks at the dealership here in LV have far exceeded my expectations. They're reasonable, and reasonably priced.
Now I feel lucky. I used to bring my turbo into Carlsen for just an oil change, and they had no problem with that - you might try them - but I'm sure it's way out of your way...
