I recently bought a
2006 Cayman S
— my first
Porsche
— so I am, as they say, a noob. Everything in the car is stock, except for a collection of jacks in the glove compartment, most notably a 30-pin iPod connector and a pair of RCA inputs. I managed to dig up an old iPod and a headphone jack-to-RCA cable, but having hooked everything up, I can’t seem to get any audio. Unfortunately, the car did not come with an instruction manual for the aftermarket audio module; however, my searches online seemed to suggest that this is not an uncommon add-on, and is often discoverable by scanning through the FM channels. I can’t figure out what I’m missing. Does anyone have any familiarity with something like this?
Does your car have
Bose
audio?
Is this aftermarket parts on stock radio?
The reason I asked about "
Bose
" is - a company named Dension makes a fiber-bluetooth adaptor for the
Bose
series PCMs. And it has an iPod connector and an auxiliary input unit (and switch back to "normal") for in the glovebox. It was a rather expensive dodad.. but it was the only game in town at the time, and fairly popular. I had one in my '06 Cayenne S Tits.
I think they still offer some sort of unit like that, and I'm sure the manuals for the early units are on line. To use the early units it substitutes itself for the optional multi-CD changer.
Let's see if I can Google it up..
Yup..
See the boxed connectors and control box?

It also will play MP3 tracks from a USB thumb drive if you don't have an iPod. And it will provide phone capability via its Bluetooth interface and the PCM phone menu.
Nice unit if you're keeping the original PCM.
Good luck with it - let us know if you get it working..

The speakers themselves are
Bose
, but the audio unit looks like a standard CDR-24…
That’s the device — thank you so much, Don! That’s a nice piece of kit… You mentioning that it connects via the CD changer was the key. (Although it took me longer than I’d like to admit to figure out how to cycle through to the CDC on the CDR24.) It works great!
Cheers,
Jeff
