I even tried pulling the fuses for the radio and amp and left them disconnected for 2 nights.

Suggestion
hi lexnat187, you may want to get the help of a good audio specialist and/or wireman to check the amp, grounding point.

Suggestion
The ONLY thing that seems to work for me is a "reset" of the system - also similar to what you describe.

Suggestion
Before, I could reset the behaviour by removing the key from the ignition after hearing the static and wait for the system to go quiet.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm having some issues with my
2006 Cayman S
with
Bose
sound and CD multichanger. Before starting the car I will sometimes get some feedback/white noise through the speakers after opening the door or placing the key in the ignition. If I start the car the noise will then increase in volume after around 10-15 minutes of driving until a heavily distorted radio station can be heard, though the white noise is deafening at that point. Before, I could reset the behaviour by removing the key from the ignition after hearing the static and wait for the system to go quiet. But now I can only reset it by having the car started for a few minutes then shut it down and wait for a minute before restarting.
The sound does not seem related to engine RPM and I'm at a loss now to what is causing the problem. Could it be related to the amp in the frunk?
Hi Mathias,
I'm in Dubai too. I can see you are in the Springs area too by the looks of your picture? Good choice in first car by the way
.
I'm keen to avoid the dealerships at this point.
Porsche
servicing in this region is not the cheapest. I'm competent enough to tackle most DIY projects on my car myself so I'd like to try to at least diagnose the problem myself before going to the service centres.
Hey, I can’t really figure out your name from your username ?
I have listen to the audio clips quite a bit and to be honest it does not sound too good. I myself, agree with you 100% that it is overly expensive at Dubai Porsche service center, but I think this time it would be the best option before there is more damage to the car. But other than that your car looks great from the profile picture ?
Also, even though I just got my car, it had been beginning to smell like fuel after driving it, especially when it was in my closed garage. and I also tried to look for anything and search the web for answers, but I had to admit that this problem was beyond my ability and I took it to Porsche, and they are currently working on it right now. However, I do believe that if you bring the car in, they take a look at the car for free.
hi lexnat187, you may want to get the help of a good audio specialist and/or wireman to check the amp, grounding point. If I recall correctly the
Bose system
uses optical connections vs. copper.
Radio sounds like a connection. I had something similar and it was the
plug
in of some wires behind the unit not being solidly in. Easy to pull out and check
When I got the gas smell I also got a CEL; it was a crack in plastic vaper control from the gas tank. You would need at experienced tech with a smoke detector to locate.
Fairly cheap part, expensive labor since hard to get to.
I have a question and possible answer (although it is not much of a solution). When the radio is giving you this static, can you play a CD and it sounds fine. I have a similar problem to what you describe. Every once in a while I will get in and power my 2011
Boxster
up and the radio is SUPER static-y. The ONLY thing that seems to work for me is a "reset" of the system - also similar to what you describe. I have to shut off the engine, pull out the key, open my door, arm the alarm, wait about 10 seconds, disarm, open the door and restart the car and that usually clears it. Pain the the ***. Thankfully it doesn't happen often. If I don't have time, I just listen to a CD and after the transition at my destination it works fine.
I managed to check all of the connections behind the radio unit and the amp. All were correctly seated, unfortunately. I even tried pulling the fuses for the radio and amp and left them disconnected for 2 nights. That didn't have any positive effect.
I'll dig out the guide I used. It's straight forward but you will need Torx and Allen keys.
Only place you can really go wrong is during the release of plastic Allen bolts. They only require a quarter turn to tighten or loosen.
I can give you a hand if you like. I've got the tools already.
Just as an update on this issue, I ended up sourcing a replacement
Bose amplifier
which fixed all the audio issues I was facing.
New part number is: 997.645.334.33
My original was: 997.645.334.22
Seems like there were a couple of revisions for the amp back in 2006
Hi Lexnat,
I get that static once in a while on my 2006
cayman
. It then renders system inop for about an hour. I may try to add a new ground wire from amp to ground. Thanks
