Been driving my targa for a while now and I can't help but notice the clutch pedal is really heavy when I have to press it to change gear especially when compared to other Porsches I have driven and it is starting to ruin the whole driving experience for me.

It's a real pain as I convinced the girlfriend that it's not going to cost loads to run but I've already spent 1k in 2 months on 4 new tyres and getting small bits fixed.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Afternoon all,
Been driving my targa for a while now and I can't help but notice the clutch pedal is really heavy when I have to press it to change gear especially when compared to other Porsches I have driven and it is starting to ruin the whole driving experience for me.
I'm hoping it's not a sign that I need a new clutch as the car has only done 40k miles from new.
Can anyone shed any light on this or will I have to bite the bullet and get a new clutch fitted ?
Cheers
Toby

Fuchs , it's amazing how quickly you can go off people !!!
The biting point is about 3-4 inches from the top so I guess it could be time to get the wallet out.
Should a clutch last longer than 40k though or is it a case of how long is a piece of string ?

Sorry about that
I think its a piece of string............if you chose to you could probably make a clutch last 100k miles, but then again you could use one up in 1 hour -
if its lasted 40 k then for mixed driving then its probably not so bad.
why dont you get a good specialist to have a look at it - maybe they can make the heavy pedal less so....?
otherwise take you beloved out for a slap up meal , buy her roses and generally be nice, cos if you need a clutch chances are you need a flywheel as well........

It could be worn clutch but it could also be problem with slave/master cylinder. Is the clutch slipping on hard acceleration?
Mine is heavy too and I was told that the clutch is on it's way out, so I was hoping to change to a LWF at the same time. 2 yrs, 10kmiles and 8 track days later it's still the same, a bit heavy but no sign of slipping. And I'm still waiting. If it dosen't let go before I sell it, I'll just pass the cash on to the next owner.

Mick,
When are you going to sell?

I'll be starting to look for an RS seriously @spring next yr, and sell as soon as I found one. There might be a bit of an overlap but I don't think I'd like it much without a 993 to drive at any one point!

The upside is the car will feel great after new clutch fitted. OPC charged me £1800 (!!) though including RMS change as precaution and flywheel checked.
