Okay so I had my
Cayman
in the garage for the winter without a tender. I jumped it and drove down the driveway and then it turned off. Now the hood is closed and the car is dead. I tried boosting the hood from the pull out thing nonsense in the fuse and no dice. The wheel lug is locked in the hood. Sigh.
Any thoughts?
When you applied the power to the fuse box point did you try opening the frunk from the key or from the switch in the car? I recall reading that only one of them works but can't remember which.
Since you can get inside, this should be easy. The emergency power to open the front is nearly foolproof. You must have a good 12V donner source. Maybe you didn't have a good ground for the jumper. It is recommended to use an unpainted part on the door hinge. If your's is painted, try the latch on the door's other end.
You could also plug-in a battery charger in the cig lighter (with the plug attachment). You only need a little power to open activate the release.
The
987.2
manual says to use the Fob, but I didn't think the sill switch would be inoperable. I assume the
987.1
works the same. Maybe they only support the FOB as an extra measure of security. So no one could access the frunk in an unlocked car without the key.
Almost the EXACT thing happened to me this year. Long story short: I ended up getting a new battery. The last owner put a brand new Bosch OEM battery in a year before I bought the car. It seems once a Bosch battery goes dead it stays dead, no charging will bring it back to life. A subsequent test of the battery showed it was barely outputting .5v. Spent $149.00 for a new battery.
I suspect you may have to make the same investment.
Forgot to mention: As the post above mentions, Once I had the new battery in position to "jump" the car via the fusebox-fix, I had to use the FOB to open the front trunk. The door sill lever did not work to open the latch.
Check out this
thread
, the OP and I had a similar experience (see post #6 for my post). Perhaps leaving the 12v source on the fuse and ground for several minutes (maybe 20min) will enable you to open the frunk if your battery is dead-dead-dead like mine was.
Will this work if the battery is removed?
