There is no way to disconnect from that without removing but that seems like it would upset other things.

Suggestion

Try this first: Use thin nose pliers to grip the metal on the wire side, push bullet pin in a little and give a quarter twist to flatten the tiny retainer prongs against the housing wall, then try to pull the wire.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Im trying to remove passenger seat switch from 02 996 c4s. I lifted the cushions and disconnected 2 connectors. There is a third wire that goes from switch into main connector that has to be disconnected to remove the seat. Do I need to remove that? There is no way to disconnect from that without removing but that seems like it would upset other things. That main connector has another wire coming out of it that runs off someplace else. Suggestions? its the brown and red wire. somedays I just hate cars. This should be simple.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Its these two wires that are still connecting seat to switch. Everything else disconnected. Do the two wires just pull out or do I need to take apart to get wires out. Red and brown wires.

POST 3Original post

Argeo - The power and ground pins are bullet type 999 652 571 22. You can pull them with a pin puller. If you look at a pic of the part you’ll see where the little teeth are that engage inside the connector box. You can also take needle nose and push them out. Third option is grab the top of the metal pin with needle noses and use brute force. They go back in pretty easy, snapping back into box. These three methods will keep you from pulling out the wire from the pin. Did you already remove the belt warning light wire from the connector box? Can’t tell. Mark the wire pin positions on the connector.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, I havent removed anything from the plastic box the 2 wires go into. So are you saying I can grab the metal on each wire and pull out with force or push out from other side? just to confirm. thanks.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Where can I buy a pin puller?

POST 6Original post

IIRC there is a section of the connector that locks it in place. It is on the side of the connector. I believe it is just to the right of your finger in the photo in this thread. Grasp the center section on the side of the connector and pull outward. That should release the connector from the seat.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That is to release the electrical source. I had to pull that to disconnect wires that the seat to car. Does the puller have a certain name. Not sure what I am looking to buy. Thanks everyone.

POST 8Original post

I dont understand whats goig on here? R u r just removing the seat? Just pop that connector off the seat frame. I think it just slides off a tab. No need to depin anything. Also u can pull the 4 seat bolts and flip the seat in the car for more access. U r making this way too hard.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Seat is out. Im trying to remove seat switch. And yes, im probably making this harder tha it is. There are three bundles of wires coming off the switch. Two go to two connectors I just disconnected.. The third has these two wires red and brown that go to a connector. These are the pins mentioned above. There is another large wire that goes into this connector but is not related to switch. Picture below show that 3rd black wire. The brown wire is on the back side of red wire.

POST 10Original post

Why are you taking the seat switch out? Anyway to take out the seat switch you do need to remove those 2 wires from the main connector. Do it like this: 1) remove the main connector from the seat by twisting it 1/8 turn 2) there is a small piece of plastic that secures the pins in the connector. It's either blue or yellow. It pulls out from the end of the connector 3) get an electrical terminal remover which is a small, thin wall cylinder. You can get them on amazon. Example of a huge kit: Amazon Amazon 4) select the terminal remover that just fit over the metal end of the connector pin and push the terminal remover cylinder onto the metal end of the terminal. Push hard. 5) pull the wire and terminal out of the back of the connector

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Switch is broken. Seat wont go forward. Popped out connector, thanks for the tip.

POST 12Original post

Argeo - dporto and I both did extensive write ups on seat wiring stuff…lots of photos and info on the 997 seat swap thread. You should find enough info there to boost your confidence level.

Thank you. I had watch that video. It was similar to mine but I have 3 wires (third for air pump Im guessing). I used it to get me to where I am today.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ive never used a pin puller before. so do I just put this over the pin and push like heck? From what Ive seen, the puller should go around pin and push down two wings (to get flush) on pin to get flush with pin and pull out. Is that it?

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Do I need the size that fits in the plastic hole or just fits around the metal prong in the plastic hole. Sorry, picture above isnt so good and my eyes arent either.

POST 17Original post

It slides inbeteeen the plasic "tube" and over the pin. Slide it in the front and then push the wire from the back into the tool, then push the tool and the pin out the back.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So the one that fits in the plastic hole, not over pin? Thanks

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 18561779

No it has to do both. It has to slide over the pin nut inside the tube. Its very thin.

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 18561709

It just needs to fit over prong. Itll take a pretty good effort to pop them out. If a metal sleeve comes out with itnot a problem. They go right back in the box. Try this first: Use thin nose pliers to grip the metal on the wire side, push bullet pin in a little and give a quarter twist to flatten the tiny retainer prongs against the housing wall, then try to pull the wire. I regret not taking a picture of the bullet pins when I had them out, but courtesy of Rosepassion, heres a pic: 999-652-571-22

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for trying but Its not working. The tool is flaring. I pushed with a lot of force and nothing happened. Im cutting the wire and splicing in. Not worth breaking the plastic connector and making a bigger mess.

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That picture help and an a act of god. Thanks Hopefully back in Wednesday and call it done. Thanks for everyones patience.
