Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

POS radio with sticky knobs is gone! CarPlay coming up!

POST 2Original post

Looks like you got the side panels off without breaking off the posts. Wish I had. :-( Lost the driver's side top tab last time. Still secure. I just got semi-finished with changing out my head unit. Bad fitting, so less than perfect, but good enough for a dirtbag like me. Since i went with a MOST adapter to keep the Bose setup, I can just pop the CDR-24 back in when I want to sell the car. Hope you got a reputable head unit and not a cheap one that uses nonstandard sizes. That was the big lesson I learned. Having real nav and streaming music is awesome.

POST 3Original post

I did get them off without breaking any! That orange plastic pry tool saved the day! I have a very simple install as it's a pretty basic car. No Bose so that's it for wiring! Going with a mechless head unit that'll give me Apple CarPlay . It's great for Nav and streaming Pandora as long as there's cell service. No CD or nav antenna to deal with.

POST 4Original post

Finished! Came out pretty good but the bezel was a PITA! Didn't quite fit the front of the head unit.

POST 5Original post

Nice install! I gave up on trying to figure out my my CDR 24 wouldn’t power up and pulled the plug on a Sony two DIN unit.

POST 6Original post

To any of you guys with nonstandard 7" Android units: did any of you Dremel trim the radio bezel itself, and not the gray front bezel? I destroyed two trim bezels trying to make it fit. Just living with the crappy black surround ring my Pumpkin unit came with. I just ordered another Metra kit to see if I can get it to fit flush. Thinking that I may just Dremel the radio itself to make the trim bezel clear it. Ideas or feedback on adjusting the radio to the bezel and not the other way around?

POST 7Original post

I though about trying that but instead of using a dremel on the bezel, which just wanted to melt the plastic, I used this and snipped off the plastic a little at a time.

POST 8Original post

That's a great idea, Sgt! I have some of those. I used the cutting and barrel sanding tools on the Dremel and did melt and deform the snot out of my bezel. Whenever I feel like taking the side panels off again, I will try to get a better fit and finish. I also bought a 12-point ratcheting slim 7mm wrench for the secret security bolt, which is the main thing holding my radio in right now. I have about an inch or two of wiring connectors to fish into cubby spaces to make the Pumpkin fit properly. There's so much stuff there with the CANBUS connector, the noise filters, the MOST converter, USB cables and excess RCA connectors.

POST 9Original post

Old post I know, but any chance you could let me know the dimensions of that security bolt? Missing on my car and I need it to hold in the new unit (long story but I need it). Been googling for hours and can't find anyone selling the bolt.
