When you get them don't be surprised to see they were "Made in Slovania" - I replaced 4 door handles using Aliexpress on my Cayenne at a fraction of the cost of them from Porsche.

I've replaced both sides as they tend to fail with age....

both of mine failed within about a year of each other as I daily drove the car for several years and the doors were used often.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Thanks for the reply, yeah i replace the actuator, however still having the same issues.
Hope someone can help me decipher what is going on. I have an 2007 987
Boxster
. A couple of weeks back the right side door locked and would not open, either with the key or from the inside, this lasted for a day and then it released. took the car to an auto electrician and he plugged in code finder and code 8009 come up "Door h.Button, inner sh. Stroke", with code 8010 "Locking motors and code 8006 "Door lock fault. I replaced the door lock mechanism. Everything appeared fine until a couple of days after replacing the door lock. The car would sometime not lock, either with the remote of the key and would double peep every time you took off or tried locking or unlocking the door. I took it back to the auto electrician and now all these other codes have come up, listed below
C141 - Communication pcm (Display)
C144 - Communication cdr (display)
8004 Terminal 50
-8009 - Door h.Button, inner sh. Stroke, passenger side.
Cheers Adrian
I noticed over 200 views yet no comments. I was of the understanding that this forum was suppose to help fellow
Porsche
enthusiast out. Im not trying to be that asshole guy im just trying to sort out an issue that i believe, through looking at other posts and the knowledge of some members, that this forum can help me out.
If it were me and i have had a similar experience i would be more than happy to share and help out a fellow forum member
Presumably all the 200 or so people who have had this happen to them are thinking they would be jerks and not answer you, just to be jerks. It hasn't happened to me.
Some of these types of problems, particularly electrical, are one off kinds of issues others just haven't experienced. Just because someone reads the post doesn't mean they can help. Perhaps they are also looking for help or just reading posts. I read most
987.1
posts just because I own one. If you didn't get help from the forum or your mechanic then I would suggest both another forum and another mechanic. Hope you find a solution. Good luck.
Thanks for the reply Budman. yeah i have tried several different
Porsche
mechanic and auto electrician, hence the frustration and my post above. I'll keep investigating, Cheers
Xsbank, Why did you feel the need to comments, if only to get a rise.
hey there mate... Adrian987.... I was one of those who read your posts but your case is different from mine as you had codes. IIRC, most of the other door lock threads do not mention any error codes. Just the problem with the locking mechanism and the situations (I assume you've read the search results).
do you have any other symptoms like you can't open the door from the inside?
when you mention you've replaced the door lock are you referring to the door lock actuator? (which causes inconsistent door lock/unlock issues) and looks like a black plastic box about the size of the palm (see pic).
I've replaced both sides as they tend to fail with age....
Hi eyeofthetiger. Thanks for the reply, yeah i replace the actuator, however still having the same issues. The issue on occur when outside temps exceed 30oC. One thing at lest, given that it only occurs when it is hot i managed to rule out the module. When it really gets hot, Australia weather in summer 🥵, the door will not open at all, even from the inside.
Next
step is as you mentioned replace the left hand side actuator and if that doesn't fix it,
next
step look at the wiring harnesses.
I managed to find a VW door lock actuator, with the exact same part number as the
Porsche
one and they look identical. pictures below (the one on the right is the VW part). When i replaced the right side actuator it cost me $500.00, while the VW lock only cost me $45.00. I have read on another forum of a guy using the VW lock on his 987
Boxster
without any issues and if it doesn't work for me, it only cost $45.00.
I will keep updating my progress, hopefully once it is sorted i will be able to help someone else out
i think the parts are sold under VW,
Audi
or
Porsche
part numbers and brands. I think mine was an
Audi
part but has similar markings to your VW one but I paid significantly more than 45 dollars - so yours is a good buy. both of mine failed within about a year of each other as I daily drove the car for several years and the doors were used often.
I can't comment to the temperature issue since its pretty much almost 28-30 degrees here all the time
is the problem now on the left side with the door opening issue? or is it primarily the locking beeps and the codes?
No the left door opens and closes without any issues even though it is throwing up a code (8009 - Door h.Button, inner sh. Stroke, passenger side). it is still only the right side that occasionally doesn't open and i still have the issue where the car wont lock in hot weather causing the horn to beep every time i take off after stopping. I will replace the left actuator and see if that fixes the problem.
Do you know what error code, Gateway - 8004 Terminal 50 is, this code keep coming up as well, i am thinking and hoping that it relates to the stereo, I have put in an aftermarket system.
Hi Adrian,
How is the VW actuator working out? If ok can you advise the part number and link if available? My passenger side is acting up and if the VW part works at $45, I'll just change teh driver side actuator as well.
Thanks.
While waiting for the Ozzie gentleman to chime in on the other thread, will be this be the correct VW part?

I just bought a
987.1
Cayman
with the exact same error says Door h. Button Innser sh.Stroke and Outer sh.Stroke. The previous owner told me when it gets hot it wont open from inside or out, same passenger side.
As another source for these actuators - I've found these sort of parts quite a few times on
Aliexpress
. Despite the items being made in China - they appear identical to the ones showing up in the $350
Porsche
box. These actuators were used on lots of VW cars, so either China was the original manufacturer (my guess) or they did a wonderful job in replicating them (don't think there would be a big enough market for them.. but guess you never know):
The listing lists 2005-2015 Cayman 987 compatible. These parts were originally spec'd for the Series-1 Cayenne, that's obvious by the first three digits of the part number (955), and it looks like VW put them in their general parts bin and grabbed them to use in several other vehicle lines they produce. There are others on Aliexpress - all it takes is a bit of searching. Usually they'll pop right up if you put in the Porsche or VW part number.
When you get them don't be surprised to see they were "Made in Slovania" - I replaced 4 door handles using Aliexpress on my Cayenne at a fraction of the cost of them from Porsche. They were absolutely identical to the old ones I took off - right down to the "Belgium" cast into the plastic.
If you look at these carefully in the photos on AliExpress there are some numbers/symbols on these actuators cast into the plastic housing - identical numbers/symbols can be found on the photos of "genuine" ones above.
