This is not a probability of success.

Eventually, he'll have to test all 3 back to back, but kinda difficult finding a GT2 locally to test!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Also on the '997' board, but thought I'd get an opinion from you 996 boys and girls... Ok, here goes, friend of mine is stuck between buying a 997S a 996 Turbo and a 996GT2, all of which are currently around the same pricing. He's moving on from a 993 Turbo (S Spec) which his had for the last 8 or 9 years! (This will be up for sale very soon if anyones interested). He prefers the shape of the new 997, can't afford a 997 Turbo or GT3, but wonders if he'll miss the straight line performance of his 993 by choosing a 997S. Eventually, he'll have to test all 3 back to back, but kinda difficult finding a GT2 locally to test! Any first hand experience would be great on this! Thanks, Dan.

POST 2Original post

Man, that is a tricky call. If it is just a play thing then I would like to think if I had the money I would go GT3 or GT2 route. If he wants to use it and put some mileage, then the 997S pulls ahead but the 996 Turbo might be the better finanical buy with less depreciation, especially if he waits for the 997 Turbo to come out and the 996 Turbo prices might drop a tad more. GT2; every time...[ ] (but always assuming you can find a good one). It's a phenomenal car, and great value for money at the moment.
