I just installed the
PCCM plus
in my 06 Boxter with
Bose
. If you don't care about the quality of the sound you should get it. But if you do you should be warned that if you have a convertible the volume on the bluetooth and
Carplay
sources are so low that even at the volume on 30 which is the loudest you can hardly hear it. Even with the top up it is not adequate .I'm very disappointed with the product and with
Porsche
. The radio volume is adequate but still under powered. It was an easy installation,
plug
and play without any problems It looks great in the dash and the menu interface is easy to navigate. I did not like the CDR 24 that much but at least you could hear it with the top down. The unit has a equalizer that has presets for rock, jazz, pop and classical and a custom setting but for some reason it not enabled with the
Bose system
. The onlyEQ settings that are available are bass and treble. The bass dominates and need to be turned down. Maybe if the EQ worked it would help but I doubt that it would overcome the lack of amp power. There is in a sub menu what seems to be a master volume for each source where you can raise or lower the volume but hardly makes a difference with the bluetooth and USB sources.
Carplay
for maps and phone calls is a plus and updates a 17 year old car nicely. Bottom line a nice new look and some good features but an underpowered amp and poor volume ruins what could have been something special
That is disappointing to hear.

Sounds like something is wrong with the install, or with your hearing (lol). My
bose
-equipped
987.1
cayman
with PCCM+ is deafening with the volume all the way up, windows down or not. I rarely (if ever) get up to 20 out of 30 on the volume control.
On some
Bose
systems - the volume of the output is controlled by the
Bose amp
- the "headunit" simply sends some Most-Bus (using the fiber connection) command to the amp to raise or lower the volume. When you remove the original headunit - whatever the gain was set to on the amp by the old headunit is going to be all it's capable of.
The PCCM+ retains the
Bose amp
since it does the frequency splitting for the different speakers - it has individual channels for the woofers, mids, tweeters, dash speakers... keeping the amp keeps those capabilities.
To get it to work correctly - reinstall the old headunit - turn the volume all the way up (nothing has to be playing - we're just setting the amp gain) - then turn the car off and remove the key. Reinstall your PCCM+ and I suspect you'll have more than adequate volume.
Thanks for the tip. I’ll give that a try. There are a number of similar complaints, on another forum, and on YouTube regarding the low volume on Bluetooth and
CarPlay
. What I don’t understand is why the tuner is sufficiently loud and the other two sources or not.
I wonder if the
Porsche
Android headunit has the capability the
AliExpress
one has - of setting volume individually for each channel or device in the unit. It's buried in one of the pass-code protected menus somewhere. It's quite useful since certain suppliers of sound don't record or play-back at the same gain level. If might be worth taking a look if you have the factory pass-code.
AliExpress
is 3368, but I suspect yours will be different.
Hi Randy,
Please update if anything worked for you. I just got mine installed with the same lack of volume issue.
Thanks
Hi, My PCCM+ is currently backordered for my 2006
Cayman
with
Bose
. If the
battery
is disconnected prior to removal will that pre-set volume in the amp disappear. Should I leave
battery
connected and just be careful when replacing head unit to retain all presets? Thanks
Hi my 06
Cayman
with
Bose
have the Pccm+ presently on order. Did your install go seamless. No need for programming? Did you leave your
battery
connected? Thanks
Could it be that the bluetooth/
carplay
source volume is set very low? If I connect my
iPhone
to a bluetooth dongle that is plugged into the auxiliary input and the
iPhone
volume is low then turning the volume all the way up on the original head unit still won't give much volume. If you turn the volume up on the
iPhone
though you can easily get the correct volume range.
My recent self installed PCCM+ (in my original
987.1
CS (with
Sport Chrono
and
Bose
) has yielded MUCH BETTER sound quality… and that’s without even connecting the 2 rear speakers yet.
HOWEVER, I just noticed that all of the deeper functions of the original head unit that pertained to
Sport Chrono
(lap times, etc) are non-existent.
I haven’t seen anyone anywhere mention this side effect. Am I missing something? I have possession all the factory codes and a
PIWIS
.
