Cleared error code.
When I turn on the Headlights, the
3 “marker lights” flash on for a second and then go off and error code returns

A
ll other lights function normally. Brake, backup, turn signal.
Any ideas on where the fault could be?
In different Forum, a member commented that it may be the ECU? Said its likely water damage related. Although I have never seen any sign of water damage anywhere in the car. Bit, does this sound like water or other failure of the ECU would be causing this? Another suggested it was the BCM. Do either ofthesesound likely?
If yes, how do I go about checking them, and fixing or replacing it if necessary? I am handy with some DIY projects and have Durametric Pro cable.... Np PIWIS.
Water damage on the rear module is certainly a possibility. This module is located under the passenger seat, so if the car has ever been left with the top down, windows open, or had any leaks, then this module is VERY likely to have been damaged.
You may try seeing what Durametric says, to see what the exact error is. You could also check for voltage at the rear bulbs. If you're not getting voltage, then it's time to start tracing back... or just skip to the module and start by taking a close look at it. Water damage is usually pretty apparent, as there is often corrosion and such.
There are many threads about the rear module here and on other forums - do a search and see how to get to it, what to look for, etc.
Ummm.... leaving the top down on a
Cayman
might be difficult.. requiring a Sawzall or something similar. Leaving a sunroof open is more likely, but even then - probably not enough rain to damage anything.
Without diagnostics, any advice given is pretty much guesswork (and hence - can be costly to follow.)
Since you have a Durametric - is there a reason not to plug it in and scan for errors? There are undoubtedly some stored in one or more modules that might get us a bit closer to an informed response.
The Rear ECU doesn't control Exterior lighting. The Exterior Lighting Module located up on passenger side of the Frunk does that. Just found out about that in the 987 Service Manual. Testing and Replacement require PIWIS. I've "cleared errors" with the Durametric to test various "solutions". Will get the Code and decipher if I can see it with the Durametric.
SOLVED: It was indeed the Rear
ECU
that had a little corrosion and was causing the error. Swapped it out for a rebuilt Module coded for my specific 06CS and it is fixed!
