Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I drive my 2019 992 2S all year round. I’m in the uk and I’ve seen a 4S with RWS… should i change? Interested in peoples opinions on going from 2 to 4wd on a 992. I don’t want a GT car or GTS given the stiffer suspension (SPASM VS PASM) and general running costs.

POST 2Original post

If your car is now 6 years old and used regularly, then can see why you may be considering a change. But, personally, I don t believe 4wd makes a better car, in fact many here prefer 2wd. Tyres more important in adverse weather. RWS like PDCC divides opinion. I ve tried both and wouldn t spec either. Do agree that the standard suspension is more compliant and a touch quieter on UK roads than the lowered sports suspension on the T and GTS. The limiting essential for me is becoming the manual gearbox. On the 992.2 this is only available on the T and GT3, but on the 992.1 it can still be found on the T, S and GTS.

POST 3Original post

I have owned both a 991.2 and 992.1 4S. I currently drive a 992.1 4GTS. These are used all year and I cover about 10k miles a year I have driven the rear wheel drive versions and my preference has always been for the 4wd. It provides a better drive especially in the wet and feels more sure footed when driven hard. None have RWS but having driven a 4GTS with RWS, there is an improvement but not noticeably enough to warrant adding to the spec.

I have a 4S and even though most of the power, most of the time, is at the rear wheels, I like the assurance of AWD along with slightly heavier steering feel. Some people talk about the pleasure of a 911 'moving around' - I don't.

POST 5Original post

Keep the Carrera S and invest in a second wheel set with winter or all-season tyres This will deliver more real-world confidence than AWD, zero change in steering feel, and far better value for money

POST 6Original post

Isn’t there a reduction in the space available in the frunk on a ‘4’ ? Probably not a deal breaker for most but I seem to remember noticing when I was looking that the ‘4’ has intrusions into the floor of the frunk. FWIW, I’m considering switching my manual, RWS 992.1GTS ‘2’ for a 4S PDK as I’m finding the lack of winter traction tedious (but fun at times). Edited by Crumpet on Sunday 28th December 20:18

POST 7Original post

I have a turbo s which is 4wd and rear steer Rear steer I have never noticed. I have done 4 Porsche experience centre turbo s days and with traction on it is impressive that the low friction surface is a non event given the electronics and 4wd. The turbo s motivation for 4wd is mostly there is no other way of transferring 650 bhp to the road but the stability on a poor road surface is impressive

POST 8Original post

I have RWS. If I didn't have it, it wouldn't be a big deal, I suspect, but my 991.2 feels very nimble and agile; I like it. My 911 history BTW is 993, 997 and now 991 (have tested a 992 but preferred the 991).

Yes, the 4 has a slightly smaller frunk, I can't say the difference is easy to spot and I've managed easily on my month long visits into France with it. Mine is a 4S and I have to say I am a big fan of PDK, it suits my driving and is usually in sports mode once warmed up. It is always in the right gear and is very quick to recognise going up or down hills with lightening shifts. It can (obviously) be driven in manual mode too - which I very rarely do.

POST 10Original post

I drove both back to back on rain soaked roads a few years ago . The 4 is more capable in such conditions ,traction control was kicking in much earlier in the 2, but the 2 is very capable in those conditions .I genuinely can’t remember much else although I recall a few others on the day preferring the steering feel of the 2s .

It was just a 'cooking' 3.6 Carrera but I enjoyed it very much. I then went to two 981 Caymans before going 991.2. Even looking back fondly on the 997, I prefer the 991 because it's more modern and refined. In terms of driving characteristics, the 997 is more classic 911 and has better steering feel, but the 991.2 (with its improved electric steering) nevertheless is very responsive and offers great 'connectedness'; I am very impressed and put a lot of it down to the RWS. HTH. PS Kermit fan then?

POST 13Original post

Personally I’d always want a 2wd 911….I can see the case for 4wd but you’d need to live somewhere where it was really necessary. Massive advocate of winter tyres….a 2wd 911 on winter tires will be a great winter car and be able to do things a 4wd on normal tyres wouldn’t. I just prefer how a 2wd car drives and steers when you’re enjoying the cars capabilities. Re RWS on 991.2 it is an area of weakness like the active engine mounts are. My GT3 has it. A couple of independents I trust (Center Gravity and RPM) have both said they need looking at which will happen when the car is serviced next year (under warranty).

Interested to hear what issues/symptoms are occurring with RWS? I've just bought a 2018 GTS and specifically wanted one with RWS and did some research in advance of my purchase and couldn't find any recurring or common problems with RWS.

POST 15Original post

There s a tiny bit of play in the mechanism, CG showed me when the car was up on a ramp. Both CG and RPM said that it’s a problem they’ve seen before/known issue. I can’t pretend to say that I’ve noticed it though ! Enjoy the new car…991.2 GTS is a great car. Edited by Cheib on Thursday 1st January 16:45
