I use the old fluid in a bottle, tube connected to the nipple and thrn submerged in the old fluid method, fill the reservoir and then pump slowly.

In the section it states, if you car has traction control or PSM, I need to use the Porsche System Tester 2 in order to active the valves in the hydraulic unit during the bleeding process.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've just changed all my pads and discs today. All went well until I removed the pads from the nearside rear. One of the old anti squeal pads had broken and the end that goes in to the piston was stuck in and I could get it out. So to finally remove it I had to remove the piston and seal. Lost some brakes fluid but it enabled me to remove the offending item. Pushing the piston back, I thought that is going to cause an air lock. Sure enough, I now have a brake pedal like sponge, so the brakes need bleeding. So, with this I mind I had a quick look in my 101 projects for your Porsche at the bleeding brakes section. In the section it states, if you car has traction control or PSM, I need to use the Porsche System Tester 2 in order to active the valves in the hydraulic unit during the bleeding process. Is this true? I've watched a few YouTube videos of people bleeding gen2 brakes and none of them mention the above? Cheers in advance Mark

I’ve been told by someone who’s business is rebuilding calipers that you only need to worry about using PIWIS if you let the system drain and the air makes it into the ABS unit. I use the old fluid in a bottle, tube connected to the nipple and thrn submerged in the old fluid method, fill the reservoir and then pump slowly. If the bottom of the hose is submerged then you will not introduce air, keep check the reservoir.

POST 3Original post

As above, only if you drain the ABS unit. Just bleed the caliper and you should be good to go. Make sure you bleed both nipples.

POST 4Original post

When I fit new pads I always clamp off the hose with the appropriate tool and open the bleed nipple(s) when pushing the pistons back in. Stops crud going back up the pipes and also prevents reservoir overflowing if its been topped up as the pads wear.
