Tom I'm wondering if it isn't separated into two different part #'s because the placement of the badge changed from Mk1 to Mk2?

Suggestion

I suspect that there was likely much variation during the first model year run (or potentially the whole run since there aren't a ton of .1 XAA cars).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

18 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

AFAIK, there are two different sizes one for the standard decklid and one for the aero kit. Looking for the aero kit part Pelican shows these two https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_In...4311&DID=38824 https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_In...4311&DID=20645

POST 2Original post

Tom I'm wondering if it isn't separated into two different part #'s because the placement of the badge changed from Mk1 to Mk2? The placement would also be different on an Mk1 with Aero, it would be lower like the Mk2. I have a 99 Carrera cab in my workshop and my 03 in my home garage I'm happy to take measurements and report back this weekend. Photos below to reference my above comment.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, Ive got a few examples to compare but no part numbers. Nor does the part give a size if there was a difference. funny I never noticed it was lower on the MK2. the aero kit position looks to be in the middle right where the bulge is in the standard deck lid.

The 996.1 Technical Bulletin for Aerokit installation lists 996.559.237.00.70C (latest updated P/N ends in 06 70C) as the script P/N. It also gives measurements for placement: "The bonding height is 50mm from the lower edge".

Thank you @gbarron ! Where can I find the technical bulletin you speak of?

POST 7Original post

I'm using script # 9965592370970c on both my '99 deck lids. It's the ~260mm version referenced in this install diagram. My original script was mounted high and I mounted the one on the spoiler lid in the same place. Maybe I need to move it to the lower location as shown on the lid in the Porsche catalog.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

this is correct for the aero kit cup spoiler

POST 11Original post

Heres my 2000. Factory aero car, as from the factory. All original. Invoice date of 3/1/2000. But Im guessing that it really came down to if Hans & Franz were in a hurry to get to the Biergarten.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well now Im confused. I have three aero kits and two are both in the same middle position. The third one is missing which is why Im replacing it. that example looks too low without the indentation of the standard engine cover.

POST 13Original post

IMO this is correct placement.

My 9/98 build XAA is lower than yours but higher what is shown by @wab_jr . I suspect that there was likely much variation during the first model year run (or potentially the whole run since there aren't a ton of .1 XAA cars). Similar production variations exist in other P-car models going all the way back to the beginning.

Some 09/98 cars (probably built first four days of that month) may have had amber lenses, which means they would have been assembled (with 993’s) in a different factory than the later 996’s If your car is amber-lenses that could explain the discrepancy in logo placements (??) We would please like to know definitively if your car had amber lenses, or at least the last four digits of your VIN? Thanks!!

POST 17Original post

my 9/98 build with aerokit has the same placement as the pic above
