Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

There's all sorts of linguistic shorthand used on the Porsche ownership journey, when you get into and out of a P-car, and you need an OPC for a PPI and frankly it's awful to try and figure it all out.
Leading evidence: 'Use on the porsche ownership journey' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace model name at some point' (1 discussions). I note this is a 2001 car which adds to my thinking that Porsche maybe did change the model name at some point.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Probably a bit of a newbie (stupid) question but did Porsche update the 996 model name from "Carrera" to "Carrera 2" at some point? Did it happen with the facelift or perhaps when the Carrera 4 was introduced?
I honestly thought my 1998 car was called a Carrera 2 (that's what I always had to filter to on Autotrader, Car and Classic etc) and have only just noticed that all documentation for the car including the V5 shows the model as "911 Carrera" only. Also looking at Porsche UK sales literature from 1998 they refer to the car as 911 Carrera.
993, 997 and onwards don't seem to have the "2" added on any of the selling platforms, so I assume Porsche updated the model name at some point, or why else would the 996 be listed differently? Is there really such a thing as a 996 C2?
Just seems odd to me now that all of the 996 base models on Autotrader get listed as Carrera 2, whereas all of the 997 base models get listed as Carrera.
I found a CoA posted by another member with Porsche referring to the model as "Carrera 2". I note this is a 2001 car which adds to my thinking that Porsche maybe did change the model name at some point.
In the US, they call it a 'Base'. But not a Base 2 or Base 4. Presumably an air-cooled Carrera should then be called an Air Base in the US...

No need to confuse me further
Maybe I'll get a CoA just to see if Porsche will chuck in a bonus "2", or if they're sticking with Carrera only for the earlier cars.
America also the only place to call the 996 Turbo the 996TT (twin turbo) ...that really gets me

Sadly, you won't as Porsche don't issue CoA's anymore.
Various documents lead to confusion. A long time ago we had a member on here who just couldn't accept that there wasn't such a thing as a 996 Carrera 2S because that's how his V5 described the car.
He actually had a Carrera with a Tiptronic S gearbox.
My 996.2 Carrera 4S is badged "
Carrera 4S
" on the bootlid, and on the door sill plates.
My 991.1 Black Edition is badged "
Porsche 911
" and says "
Black Edition
" on the door sill plates. It's basically a Carrera 2 with lots of comfort options.
Both are Porsche 911s of course, despite neither actually having that model number!!!
On this forum we take it for granted that we know which car is which and sometimes forget how confusing all this nomenclature is to new entrants.
I believe the 964 was launched initially as a Carrera 4 and the rear wheel drive version was released afterwards as the Carrera 2. But subsequent 2 and 4 wheel drive 911s have been released at the same time.
Could that explain it?
That's a good example. At least with the 964 the rear badge script would state Carrera 2 or Carrera 4.
If Porsche did decide to add a "2" to the 996 documentation at some point, they didn't update the rear badge to match.
