Therefore, if your '99 has the frunk amp, you're going to have to take the speaker-level output and convert it using a HI/LO adapter.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

27 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Has anyone put the single-DIN PCCM Im a 996? I put the two-DIN in my 02 996 cab and dont love the looks. I now have an early-build (3/98) 99 C2 coupe with factory single-DIN CDR220 stereo that I dont love, but am not interested in putting in the PCCM+. Wondering if anyone has put the single-DIN PCCM that was designed for 964s and 993s in their 996? Single DIN is universal fit so I cant think of why it wouldnt fit as replacement for single-DIN factory equipment.

POST 3Original post

It can be done, see photo #62 here: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...-carrera-4-28/ There are other posts here on Rennlist from others

Here's the problem you're going to run into... the Porsche classic radio does NOT have line-level output via the YELLOW plug like the CDR-220. Therefore, if your '99 has the frunk amp, you're going to have to take the speaker-level output and convert it using a HI/LO adapter. You may experience some low frequency hum.

ahhh, good to know. I do have the frunk amp. Might take it to an audio specialist and see what they suggest. Thanks.

POST 7Original post

Does anyone know if the amplifier in the PCCM offers better quality audio than the CDR-220? I dont have a frunk amplifier in my 00.

POST 8Original post

The frunk amp is the one that came with the premium audio and the equalizer below the radio right ?

POST 10Original post

My 04 C4S has the Bose package and CDR 220 and does not have an amp in the frunk edit. cdr23

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 17840220

Pretty sure an 04 would have a CDR23.

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 17840236

oh yes i think that is correct my mistake. no amp in the frunk though. dunno where it is. sound quality is fine though.

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 17837291

Cool idea about the single DIN.. Just curious as to why not the PCCM+?

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 17840782

Two reasons for me: 1) I put the PCCM+ in my '02 and, while it is nice, it is too modern for my personal taste in the increasingly vintage 996 cabin and 2) I'm pretty sure I want to do the GT-3 console delete and will not be able to move the AC head down. PCCM+ is a nice system and was hoping to get the modern convenience of CarPlay and satellite radio without the large, obtrusive screen. I thought the PCCM would be a good option to get best of both worlds as I think it looks more at home, both in scale and design, in the 996.

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 17840792

All this. The PCCM+ looks just as absurd in 996 as the PCM did. These are little old race cars now; giant LCD displays look absolutely absurd on a 996 dash. The 996 was conceived with the GT3 Console Delete in mind. It's the native environment. Everything else is a compromise to marketing IMO. Sunroof, stereo, NAV, Apple, Android.., cut it all out and drive

POST 18Original post

I'm a bit extreme on the low-no tech. I fully expect to yank the stereo on my Turbo and cut off the sunroof too. Just one (extreme) opinion

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 17841252

For your health! I'm with bd on this, though - the full PCM/PCCM+ doesn't preserve the (now retro) look and feel of the 996 dash. I need the features in the PCCM in my daily, not in my car that I'm driving to forget about the world.

POST 21Original post

I don't drive a 2-1/2 decade old purple 911 to stream the deepest cuts

POST 22Original post

i prefer the opposite but I get the " Purist" side.....to each their own i guess that's what makes the world go around.... I like some creature comforts in all I drive .. old and new

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 17840772

i dont know what a PCCM is but the only reason to worry about the MOST would be to accommodate the power amp. I replaced the head unit and power amp with Alpine products and achieved improvement in sound in my 03 C2, albeit with the rear seat side speakers disconnected.

POST 24Original post

I agree that PCCM is the absolute best 996 tech solution out there. Nothing else even comes close, with the sole exception of the new (and much cheaper) Continental unit (provided it is also labeled with the optional "PORSCHE" branding)

This guy did it and has a decent blog and write up on it. No affiliation…just rang a bell when I saw your post. https://zerotoflatsix.com/2020/04/20/farm-996/ I’ve been on the audio journey in both my 04 996 c2 with factory most 6 speaker system and my 03’ 996tt with Bose and an aftermarket continental unit. I go between the cdr23 with bluetooth adapter piggybacked or the continental head unit. Both have pluses and minuses. Happy to help.

That guy's site is interesting. I liked this quote: "Best of all, it’s reliable. This has been the most reliable car I’ve owned , it just never breaks down ... the reliability of the 996 is really the reason this site is now more about Porsche’s in general, with a focus on the 911 (in particular, the 996). There’s just not a lot to write about in terms of ownership as there just hasn’t been any surprise or unreasonable problems " I've been saying this exact same thing for two decades
