Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys I did a bit of a search but didn’t find an answer. I was wondering what you go by as my dash and my dipstick say very different things. My car is a c4s and has the later type dipstick. When I check on the dash it’ll show full but the dipstick will be right at the bottom. Which one do I take as correct?

POST 2Original post

Assuming that you're checking it at the right time (re oil temperature etc) I'd always go by the dipstick. Analogue is better than electronic as there's far fewer things to go wrong.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I’m normally checking it cold before use?

If that's what it says in the book to do and you're on level ground I'd trust the dipstick more. It may be that the difference between min and max on the dipstick is much less than the difference between the min and max bars on the dash readout so both could be equally accurate.
