Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looking at buying a 2000 996 C4 but it's 5 hours away and I would have to trailer it back. Wondering if the Uhaul open trailer (4 wheel one) is wide enough? I'm thinking it is but wanted to ask the question here. Anyone ever use one to transport a car?

POST 2Original post

I've used a U-haul trailer for a 996 but had to back it on. Not ideal but it was a fairly short drive. Removing the front bumper cover may allow you to drive on nose first. Could try Rennlist to see if anybody has a better trailer you can borrow...

POST 3Original post

Uhaul has different size auto trailers.. the Uhaul by me has a smaller one and a larger one. I have to get the larger one when trailering my 55 olds. If you have a couple pieces of wood you can play with the loading angle as I do when towing the Olds because of the air ride on the car. Good luck! Will

POST 5Original post

Use a Penske Trailer and truck. Much better trailers.

POST 6Original post

I have seen several 996s towed to the track on UHaul trailers. You may need to use some wood planks in front of the ramps to make clearance for the bumper. It is 100% wide enough. A friend tows a 991 GT3 to the track on a Uhaul trailer. If that car makes it onto the trailer, so will yours.

POST 7Original post

Easy enough, have done it with 3 996's. Use blocks of 2 x 8, and/or look for natural rises in the road, driveway, etc.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks everyone. I'll plan on bringing some 2x4 pieces to put under the ramps to raise it for clearance. Wish me luck! LOL

POST 9Original post

I don't remember even needing supplemental 2x4's etc, just drove it on, slowly. You might give some thought to the road debris (sand/rocks) that the tow vehicle will kick up. I think I added a few rock chips during my drive from Durango to Boulder.
