Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Same with guys that had a professional rebuild using FSI and LN.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Thoughts on this particular car?
I assume that the entire engine is pretty much scrap? Would there even be a core value in it?
Keep in mind that a rebuilt Porsche engine in and around Montreal Canada is pretty hard to come by?
Thoughts?
As per the listing:
This is a Manual 2001 Porsche Carrera 4, AWD with a hard and soft top.
All of the following is new: clutch, Flywheel, all 4 brakes, ball joint, tires, ems bearing, and lots more and we have the proof of bills.
The only issue is on the side of the timing chain the cover is broken, this needs a guy who loves a project.
This car has never seen winter.
I agree - that big crack allows sand etc to go inside engine which then causes the whole engine to have scratches so it's likely that there's no part inside that engine worth saving. So the value of the car is the car without an engine. Another question is how that broke in the first place - looks like the whole timing chain is about to come out so it could be that the engine is toast mechanically and that crack is just a collateral damage. 12k is is way too much even if the car is otherwise in excellent condition - perhaps 6-8k? (10k for the engine + 15k rebuild + 6-8k for the car) brings the price to around 30k which is in the "ball park" of real car value.
Thanks for the feedback. Yes I too was in the 6-7K range max. Seller has he has turned down 11K offers already but that could be total BS too.
With 175,000 kms its also not a low mileage version either. Perhaps an abused track car?
What would be the best place to source out a used (rebuilt or otherwise) 4S engine?
As a side note, if you are not mechanically inclined, I would run as fast as you can from it. In addition to what you will pay for the car, you need to add in another 30k+ USD into the rebuild and refresh of the car. If I understand you correctly, you do not have a Porsche Indy in your area, which makes it even more challenging and expensive if you are not a wrencher. This means that you will need a rebuilt and refreshed 996 that you can count on.
If you are mechanically inclined or just want a fun and expensive project with an awesome car, then go for it. If you do it yourself, your costs may be cut by 40%.
There are a bunch of threads from guys that are doing it themselves. They can give you a true picture of costs. Same with guys that had a professional rebuild using FSI and LN.
Everything you can think of is on RL somewhere.
