Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I know Titanic has been deceased for some time; however, has anyone kept the pool of knowledge going behind the scenes? Specifically, has anyone kept a list of the GT3s that have been known to have serious damage but are being sold as never crashed?

POST 2Original post

AgtLaw has a good list though not exhaustive I understand, there are also quite a few threads on 911uk & here detailing specific cases but as far as I'm aware there is no "sticky list".

POST 3Original post

996 GT3 RS. I don't have any info on any common-or-garden GT3s.

POST 9Original post

I do not know of a comprehensive list, but some knowledge is accessible by those in the inner sanctum. Historically a call for information on a specific car was typically mailed and relevant information normally forthcoming.

Sounds very dull, surely it's better to do a PH Porsche forum-style car character assassination without the facts to hand ? Exactly my concern. Too many armchair experts, trolls and people with an indirect interest in talking up or down cars and the market. Now that summer holidays are upon us, this only gets exacerbated.

POST 12Original post

Anyone care to share the story of Titantic GT3 for those not in the know?

POST 13Original post

Yes Slippy the format is antiquated, but as with PH some great people who enjoyed driving the cars. Titanic GT3 was a Email based forum for everything GT3, some significant contributions from key people (Simon and Gary + many more) offered a knowledge base that was very useful. Groups of 5, 10 or sometimes 20+ of us would regularly appear at UK and European circuits, organize group deals, accommodation, meals and social gatherings. The members were an eclectic mix mainly from the UK, but also all over the globe and I made and still have a good number of friends made over tall stories, taller beers and some fantastic days. The system is still operational, but in truth has little or no active participants as the internet based forums offer a more flexible format. I raise a cyber glass to all the Titanic faithful.

Is there a Red telephone somewhere I need to lift or something simpler like maybe the Batman distress light ? I have all the previous owner details of mine bar the very first.

POST 15Original post

Hi Mike, you probably already know, but you can do a "fee paying enquiry" to the dvla and they'll send out all previous owner details including photocopies of all old V5s etc. I usually do one for anything decent but haven't for my GT3 as every owner is listed in the front of the service book.

(and as a gentle dig at the usual modus operandi employed in such matters on the PH Porsche forum) Example : Missing GT3 badge on engine cover = Heavily shunted (most likely written off) or poorly repaired car, to the naysayers on PH. The reality : Badge removed to allow easier paintwork rectification/detailing and not replaced.

PH Example 2: Car is less expensive than contributor paid = Must have hidden damage, have been driven like a rental and abused like a farm animal in the hands of a lager fuelled hill-billy rugby team. The Reality: The car is less expensive that contributor paid

Does none of the paperwork with the car detail the first owner?

POST 22Original post

Back in 1999 when internet forums didn't really exist a couple of Porsche enthusiasts (Father & Son) Rob and Simon Faulkner created a means by which fellow Porsche owners could communicate and discuss info relevant to their own specific model. This was the start of www,titanic.co.uk Sections were created for 964, 944, 993 and later on the 996 GT3. The home page for Titanic GT3 still exists (http://www.titanic.co.uk/GT3/) but due to lack of enthusiasm and updates the site has now become dormant. Many of the old guard are still around although they now dribble a lot, shuffle around humming ABBA songs and mumble about the "GT3 death rattle" on startup, "blue smoke" on startup and many other things GT3 related. Many of them are dyed in the wool Porsche nuts and many still have at least one GT3 variant tucked away. Many have migrated to other forums such as Pistonheads and PureGT. Titanic/GT3 kept details of cars but not of damage as that could have been a litigious area and not somewhere we Titanic wanted to go (too close to the wind). With many specialists around such as BDM, Parr, JZM and others it is easy enough to get a proper appraisal on any Porsche you are considering. For bodywork the best starting point is to look under and inside the car for bent panels, bad spray paint etc. But ultimately the buyer has to determine for themselves that the car is to a standard they are happy with. Long Live Sideways Sid (last known Captain on www.titanic.co.uk)

POST 23Original post

Interesting post, I was a member of the Titanic 964 group back in the day, there were plenty of daily emails and it was always good fun. At a certain stage any query regarding ANY sort of mechanical issue usually had the standard "engine rebuild!" response to it... Just like the M96/7 engines these days Unfortunately I lost contact with the guys and by the time I got back into Porsche ownership technology had moved on. Still, it was a nice internet board.

POST 27Original post

I've fond memories of Titanic GT3 which was very active around the time I bought my 996 GT3.1 in early 2004. Remember well a trackday at Goodwood where anyone with a GT3 of any description was invited on track for a photo session and a series of trackdays at Bedford in around 2004/05 which was made up of mostly Titanic members. A bit boring for some folk Bedford, but I liked it as about the only place I felt confident of driving on the limit and emerging in one piece. Anyone been there recently as I heard its tough for anyone with non stock exhaust to get on. No good for me as my 996.1 know has a Manthey K400 kit fitted. Good times when petrol was cheapish and people generally had more money in their pockets Remember Sideways Sid, Gary, Steve Rance and an older chap with a 996RS who people referred to as Uncle Albert. Shame Titanic fizzled out.

The titanic guys were/are some of the most hardcore driving enthusiasts that I've ever met. Most were only really interested in pure driving fun which is why they all gravitated to the GT3 in the early days. Many of those drivers subsequently went on to forge very successful racing careers. of those that chose not to race, I regard as some of the most talented 'non' racing drivers that I know. I feel privileged that many are now close personal friends. Sadly, the GT3 has now evolved away (for good or bad) from the car that bound many of the original members of Titanic together so It's sadly very unlikely that anything similar - in the Porsche world anyway - will ever be repeated.

POST 43Original post

POST 45Original post

30th July 2025 and today is the funeral of one of the two founders of Titanic.co.uk in it's various forms. Rob and Simon Faulkner (Father and Son) had a computer business back in the late 1990's and as fellow petrolheads they loved anything that flew or had that possibility! Rob AKA The Admiral flew in the Fleet Air Arm. His son Simon flew in the RAF and we know he flew Phantoms at one time. So hitting the tarmac in Porsches gave them a second focus. Old age is creeping up on all of us and but it is so important to have these memories and to cherish them. I have owned a number of Porsches but back in 2000 the 996 GT3 lit the fuse on what exploded into the mad world of GT3 owners who fundamentally wanted nothing more than to have fun and explore these machines full potential and that meant, track days. Sorry for those arriving very late to the party but GT3 owners are far less likely to be pounding the tracks. But please raise a toast to Rob Faulkner, we miss his smiling face and gentle humour.
