So I parked my car for dinner tonight and got out and the car started beeping at me saying my parking lights were on. I checked the light switch, it was turned off. Turned the light switch on and off a couple of times, nothing, still the same message. So I start the car again hoping it'll fix itself.
Turns out I had my turn signal activated and that causes the parking lights to stay on when you take the key out. I turn off my turn signal and the car is fine.
Seems like weird programming for the turn signal/lights.
So next time someone has the same issue, check your turn signal.
Had the same thing happen to me. Took me a while to figure it out also.
I was at work when that happened to me. Someone told my lights were on and I had a hell of a time figuring it out. I agree that it is a bug.
This is good to know for those of us who have yet to have had the experience. It will surely save us some trauma.
Thanks Russ
Yeah...
Thanks guys for sharing /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/thumbsup.gif
That's normal for all European cars so you can leave the parking lights on as a warningfortrafficwhen parking on narrow roads where the car is close to or even in the traffic lane. It's not a 'bug,' just irrelevant forUS streets & roads.
Happened to me too, took me about 5 minutes to work it out. I then looked through the manual the next day and dicovered this feature.
Wouldn't the parking light section on the light switch cover that option then? It's like having 2 switches for the same option but one was hidden.
In my old Subaru, you could turn on the parking lights with a separate switch but it was needed because when you took the keys out of the ignition, all the lights would go off regardless of what position the light switch was in.
Yes happened to me and I couldn't figure it out until I remembered my rental car in Italy.
right turn signal activates only right hand side parking lights
left turn signal activates only left hand side parking lights
whereas the parking light switch activates all of them.
Have this feature in almost all my cars, though I have never, ever used it or seen anyone using it.
