Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello fellow 996ers I recently acquired a this 2002 996 in Lapis blue on car and bids and wanted help figuring out some the equipment on my car. I was unable to find mention of them on the extensive records that came with the car. The sale did not mention this car having having the Lintronic headlights. But as you guys can clearly see from the pictures. It has the 996 turbo headlights. The last owner told me he was not sure if it was halogen or HID. When I got home and checked the light output it seemed white/blue and I'm pretty sure it's the lintronic. The high beams are halogen so it's not the bi xenon type seen in the later 996.2. I think it was added later as on the lighting stalk on the steering wheel, I did not see the icon for headlight washers. I'm not sure if the washers are coming up when I push the stalk forward b/c I can't see that area. The second mystery is a button located in the driver foot well on the right side wall. If you go the car an bids auction 996 On Cars and Bids Represents the Best Starter Porsche - Rennlist Image 63 shows the small button -> its below the left hand lower stalk. I don't think that's from the factory. My hope was I would find the old owners of this 996 on Rennlist and tell them that i'm very happy with the car. I don't plan on modifying anything and will give her a good home. Thank in advance, Woody

POST 2Original post

Headlight washers = Litronic The washer icon would be on the wiper (upper right) stalk. Look on the left front and rear lower control arm and see if the height sensor is there. That is what controls the angle of the low beam.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I will check that ! Thank you. I have read that the lintronic lights can be retrofitted but the light leveling feature may be left absent. Per a Pelican article Porsche 911 Carrera Litronic Headlamp Installation - 996 (1998-2005) - 997 (2005-2012) - Pelican Parts Technical Article

Photo 96 has the options. Does not have M601 . This was very low spec build, not that it's a bad thing.

POST 5Original post

Can't really get a good look, but might be a hidden radar detector switch?

Hi Woody, those are the 996.2 Litronic headlights. The Turbo headlights have a flat inner reflective surface - the 996.2 Litronics have the vertical "ridges". Regardless, they use the xenon bulb for both high and low beam because there is a shutter inside the projector that moves. There is an additional halogen bulb that also lights up on high beam. Litronic retrofits are popular and fairly easy. The autoaimer which you don't have is a requirement in Europe. Without the autoaimer you can adjust the headlight height with an allen wrench if it's not correct.

Yup so that must mean one of the previous owners had the lintronics installed. Wish I had the documentation.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

theprf. thank you so much for educating me on that!

POST 9Original post

Congrats on the car! I have an 01 Lapis Blue C2 and it also a low spec build. No fancy options, pretty much what a sports car should be. I am in the process of refreshing the entire suspension. Lot's of fun.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Keep me updated as I'm guessing my car would benefit from newer ohlins shocks. I think one of the past owners lowered the car with H&R springs.
