Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I own a 996.2 Targa with 57,000 miles. LN Solution bearing placed 4 yrs ago, Motuil oil changes every 6 months, clean Blackstone oil reports. Never tracked. Well taken care of. My car is not abused. Recently the engine made a brief: about 30 second " Knocking" sound at idle while waiting in line for a gas fill up. This has never happened before. I have since driven the car about 5 miles with no recurrence of the " Knocking " sound. It was not a ticking or rattling sound. The oil level at the time of the sound was just above the low line marker on the dipstick. I make an effort not to overfill the engine. I will do a repeat Blackstone oil analysis in April 2026 looking for metal wear. What do you folks think could be the cause? What to do next? Thank You Jim Russo 1/21/2026

POST 2Original post

What did the oil pressure say? At idle, fully warmed up, my 991.1 is in the low 20's psi which seems adequate. 90,000 miles and the motor has been flawless. Some of the other pieces, not so much.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I did not look at the oil pressure at the time of the " Knocking " sound If it were to recur I will be sure to take note Any thoughts on the occurence are appreciated Thanks: jim Russo

POST 4Original post

Not much you can do if it hasn't reoccurred. If it happens again, I'd rev the motor a bit and see if the noise goes away with a little more oil pressure. If the potentially problem bearing has been replaced, the intermittent noise may just remain a mystery and never reoccur.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
