...Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) is geared up for the shortest possible shift times and optimum shift points, while torque boosts during gear changes provide the maximum acceleration available.

Suggestion
It seems to hold the revs a bit more when shifting while running through the gears which added to the sporty feel.

Not sure, but I will do some testing with a stop watch to see if the performance can be quantified.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello to everybody , I'd like to ask if there is anyone here who added the sport mode ( sport button ) to his car from a
Porsche
dealer
I own a
2008 cayman S
with tiptronic which doesn't have the
sport chrono package
, so I'd like to add the sport mode with the sport button , is this possible though ?
Plus what is the cost at the dealer and what was your general experience with it ? Is it worth it ? What about labor times ?
I guess my car will become
A bit faster and more aggresive since it's also a tiptronic vehicle
I just had the "Sport Mode" installed in my lightly optioned 2010
Cayman S
. It has a manual transmission and no
PASM
. It cost $799.00 for the switch and codes that are provided from
Porsche
with dealer installation costing around $250. My expectations were fairly low since my only experience with "Sport Mode" is with a 2016 C300 Mercedes Benz which is like comparing apples to oranges. The installation was very quick, maybe 2 hours, I have always had very good experiences with Sunset
Porsche
in Beaverton, Oregon.
So, got in the
Cayman
fired it up, pressed the "Sport" button and gave it some juice, WOE, right away I could notice a degree of aggression in throttle response that wasn't there before, WEEE! It seems to hold the revs a bit more when shifting while running through the gears which added to the sporty feel. I don't believe
Porsche
makes claims of added horse power with the addition of "Sport Mode" it mostly is a remapping of air/fuel program in a manual/non-
PASM
car. Is this option worth the money? I would say yes. Is my
Cayman
faster? Not sure, but I will do some testing with a stop watch to see if the performance can be quantified. Does the addition of "Sport Mode" add to the joy of driving my
Cayman
, so far I would say YES!
This month I have added a
Porsche
short shift and the Sport mode. The fun factor has definitely gone up a couple notches and it is all
Porsche
goodness!
Added it to my 2011 2.9
PDK
.
Bought it on sale from
Suncoast
($1040) and had my local dealer install it ($267).
Huge difference in performance, especially on the track.
Best performance mod (bang for the buck) I've done to the car after my suspension upgrade.
Only worth the money for auto cars. Otherwise just push the pedal further.
EDIT: I had the option in previous CS. Just adjust TPS voltage and makes you learn two different clutch engagements. Waste.
Why not get a
sprint booster
? Same thing and 1/4 the cost. My 987 has sport mode and I also added a
Sprint Booster
. Installed in 10 mins and personally I like it much more than Sport Mode. You should look into it.
Sprint booster
does not do the same thing. Not even close.
Sprint booster
only provides the "appearance" or "feel" of a performance upgrade but doesn't actually provide you with any better performance.
My experience with using the
Sprint Booster
is that you get the "feel" of more power and quicker acceleration due to the change in input at the pedal. If you're used to driving your car a certain way / applying a certain amount of pedal pressure to get to a certain speed, the
Sprint Booster
will make it feel like you're getting there faster since it changes the acceleration input for the same amount of pedal throw. I would point you to the following article for a very detailed explanation (both pros and cons) of what the
Sprint Booster
actually does:

As for the Sport and Sport Plus modes, Porsche states for the "
(PDK) transmission, the shift points are reconfigured to operate at higher engine speeds. Shift times are reduced and gearshifts become firmer and more immediate, while throttle-blip downshifts are accompanied by an emotive engine sound. Coasting mode is deactivated automatically."
In addition, in Sport Plus, 7th gear will never come into play. The Sport mode also retards the PSM functionality (i.e. PSM doesn't kick in as quick as it would in normal driving mode). Here's what Porsche has to say about this: "
The trigger threshold for PSM is raised. Agility is perceptibly enhanced when braking for corners with PSM, allowing even sportier braking and exit acceleration. For even greater dexterity, PSM can be set to standby while the car is still in SPORT PLUS mode. For safety, it is set to intervene automatically only when ABS assistance is required. ...Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) is geared up for the shortest possible shift times and optimum shift points, while torque boosts during gear changes provide the maximum acceleration available. This involving experience is further enhanced by overrun downshifts and the throttle-blip function for uncompromising driving pleasure."
I can attest that my experience on the track confirms the claims made above by Porsche. I'm very happy I added this upgrade to my 2.9 PDK. Now if I only had the bigger engine...
SPORT MODE install: Hopefully this thread is still being followed. Local
Porsche
shop suggested Sport Mode install
next
visit. They are unaware the following upgrades were made to our 2008 CS:
DME
programming
Trans Programming (TipTronic)
Air Intake
Manifold Center Plane
Throttle Body
Will the addition of Sport Mode be worth the cost and effort given the above modifications?
I added it to my
2007 Cayman
base, manual, non-
PASM
. About the same price others mention. I liked the throttle remap (no extra power), and friends told me they could tell when it was on from the
exhaust
sound (no
PSE
).
I installed the factory short shift kit, too. I was happy with both purchases. YMMV.

If I recall correctly, Sport mode also reduces/removes the "soft-cutoff" rev limiter. So, without Sport mode, the
ECU
starts to back down on power before the rev-limiter cuts in. I seem to recall it being the last 500 rpm. Sport mode removes that.
For street driven cars this may not be a very big deal, but for track/autocross it's nice to know you are getting everything you can from your motor.
Now, I have the Sport switch on my '08 BS, and I agree with the comments about the awkwardness of having to learn how to gently
launch
two different throttle mappings. I wish
Porsche
would have kept the mappings identical below 1500 rpm or so.
If I were to buy another 987, I'd be fine it it didn't have the Sport mode, and I would just pay to have the Sport mapping installed without the switch.
