If you do decide to replace the caliper bolts, you may find that the ones you take off will be hex and the new ones will be star/torx...make sure you check the site you order caliper bolts from and ensure you have the necessary driver/socket bit on hand.

For those of you looking for a high performance street pad that can be used for light track use, we have been able to secure some remaining inventory of the Pagid Sport pads.

There is also some debate on replacing the bolts that hold the calipers in place, I reused mine after cleaning and inspection, but used loctite blue as a replacement for the original thread locker.

I have always used OEM rotors and have been very pleased with them.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have and '02 C2 Carrera, used for street and touring. I am ready to change the front rotors and pads, and am looking for recommendations for durable, quiet, and the least amount of brake dust to install. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am a new owner.
I have always used OEM rotors and have been very pleased with them. OEM pads are also great for street use but they do create a lot of dust. The only other pads I have experience with are track pads, which you probably don't want, but just in case - Ferodo street/track have worked the best for me, with minimal fade on track and minimal dust and squeal on the street.
P.S. Welcome to the club! How about showing us some pics?
I use EBC red stuff pads for street. A little better bite than OEM and a lot less dust.
For rotors, the sebro slotted are pretty awesome for street or track.
If you want to save a few dollars, all of the Vipers we drove at Bondurant Race School had Power Stop pads and rotors. They performed surprisingly well. They are available on Amazon.
If its a DIY install, I watched this video in conjunction with the Pelican Parts photo tutorial to install mine.

Its pretty easy. I bought from Warehouse 33 who offer a 10% Rennlist discount.
Not sure if the video shows using a putty knife to separate the pad from the dampeners but the dampeners caught me off guard. FYI, you can remove them permanently if you want with no issues. Also, I've reused my caliper bolts many times without any problems.
EBC Red stuff is a great pad. It's a trackable street pad
A good low cost street pad is PowerStop ceramic on ebay They run around $35 a set. I have them as my DD pads on my Boxster S which has the same brakes as a C2. I have even used the PowerStop pads on the track and they worked pretty well.
In any case, low dust and no squeal
For rotors, you won't go wrong with Meyle. Around $75 a PAIR! On ebay
There is no need to spend big $$ on rotors or pads, especially for street use
Besides the brands I have on the website
http://www.warehouse33auto.com/parts...910/3/0/1684/0
I also have Hawk, EBC and DBA rotors that aren't listed, message me if interested.

I have been very happy with the Cool Carbon Street Performance pads. Good bite and modulation with very low dust. Similar in dust level to the Akebono, but much better bite. In my opinion the Akebono's have very low bite.
I don't know if this is entirely accurate. The better description IMO is that the Akebono's have more of a linear bite that is different than most OEM pad characteristics which tend to have a more grabby instant cold bite nature. You should go with the pad that is more suited to your tastes. Track guys tend to prefer the more linear feel from my observations whether they are driving on the street or track.
I see them for that price per rotor, so $150 a pair...
Regardless - Are you sure your rotors are worn past the service limits? In my experience with street use, the rotors will last for several sets of OEM pads... just sayin.
I just bought a front set of Hella-Pagid from a reputable E-bay seller for $122 shipped... lowest cost I've ever encountered, wearing like stock rotors, and would do it again in a heartbeat.
Easy DIY... and enjoyable to wrench on a such a well engineered machine!
Good luck!
A quick search showed these @ $90 for the pair. If I search a bit more, I will probably find them for less

You really gotta watch out for Meyle these days as some of their parts are now made in China. The quality and even the QC could be the same but the avg person is expecting a German made part when they buy that brand. Buyer beware...
So F'in what???
Many things are made in China and while some of it is crap, much is as good if not better than manufactured elsewhere. Just because it is made in Germany does not make it great.
Look at the country of manufacturing on many Porsche parts, it is not Germany
The quality of a part is determined by what quality the company wants. There is lots of very high quality manufacturing in China. It's no different than any other country.
Theses days you can not assume or expect that just because a company is based in a country that their manufacturing is there or that the quality is any higher or lower based on where the company is located.
The company I work for is based in S. Dakota and has been manufacturing in house for over 60 years. 2 years ago we merged with a Chinese company. They built a new campus in China with in house manufacturing.
We started building our modules in China and our guys back here in manufacturing said that the quality coming out of our China facility at worst was as good as what they produced in S. Dakota and in some ways better.
I am not advocating moving jobs, etc offshore, but you can't paint with such a broad brush about China quality
Calm down there bud. I never said anywhere in my post that stuff made in China is crap. In fact a couple of my relatives lives there so I would be the last person bashing them in an ignorant way.
What I was saying to peeps was not to be misled into buying Meyle and expecting everything to be made in Germany like it used to be. For example, I wouldn't want to be cross shopping two german brands for the same product at similiar prices if one was made in China. Then I would expect that one to be significantly cheaper. Meyle initially had a sneaky product packaging where it didn't clearly state the manafacture of origin. I don't know if it's still ambiguous these days or if they changed it to more clearly reflect that.
Different strokes for different folks but I'd have a hard time putting down $200k+ for a Ferrari made in Mexico. Just like you have people that refuse to buy Land Rover or Jaguar because technically it is Indian now. There's really no British part of it left any more as one can argue.
Not sure where the OP is based, but in the UK I just used a set of Pagid rotors and pads and they have been good. I would say that it appears the fronts (Fitted by the PO I guess) are handed as the last service advised me they are on the wrong sides! So looks like I need to swap them over and fit new pads as I expect the wear characteristics will make it wrong to use the old ones. O_Sr
OK - Can't find a set of reasonably priced 1 piece slotted rotors that fit the fronts on a standard 996 brake system... I see ref to Sebro Sport Slotted elsewhere but only have found fitment to Turbo and C4s models... anyone have a recommendation preferably with a link?
PFC08 pads stop like an aircraft carrier arresting cable, but EAT stock rotors for breakfast (cracks between holes) as mine are almost un-serviceable after only 2 DEs!
Thanks!
Thx, found a set with Vivid racing while you were gone for $218 shipped, glad to hear you endorse, will close the deal. What pads do you use and how many DE's can you get out of them?
I was told by someone (?) that when cracks connect between holes in rotor surface = unsafe... almost there on mine after 2 DE's (heavy braking tracks to be sure) and not worth risking my car over it for one more DE, but we'll see if the replacements get here in time! ha
I have them for cheaper!

^^ forgot about Jason. Great Rennlister.
For the track, I like the Hawk DTC-70. It's an awesome pad and is a little cheaper than the Pagid's. I've had good luck with the PFC-08s. I'm not sure how long they last but probably 10-20 days depending on # of sessions, track and driving style.
I'll second (or third) the Cool Carbon Street Performance pads. I've been running them for a year on the street and just finished a track day. On the street they have been very quiet, good initial bite, and feel stronger than the OE pads. On the track they took the heat very well and seemed to wear much less than Textar/OE. I'll be buying them again for the next set.
My wheels do not show a lot of brake dust though. They seem to be much better than Textar/OE but I'm not quite sure.
I also installed Sebro slotted rotors with my last pad change. Very happy with them.

That's per Porsche reco in the official service manual without explanation. I think it has something to do with metal fatigue and heat cycle the bolts see.
It's important that you don't over torque your caliper bolts. They are aluminum and will strip easily. If they do, you'll have to timesert or replace the whole carrier. Hand tighten the bolts as far as you can and don't use an impact or driver to get them started.
Or, get some caliper studs from Ira at tarett...
