I started at the top of the Das Schild and worked my way down pressing each pin in a little to check for alignment and once I saw that everything was fine I pressed each pin in as far as it would go, compressing the foam on the backside in the process.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. What is the liner made of? I see that it's foam and then some other material, but it's not clear.

POST 3Original post

Count me in for a Boxster rear only. By my calculations the GB price is $97 right?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The 996/986 is a factory matching ABS black plastic. The foam back side is being replaced with neoprene at installations points to prevent any metal, the bracing, on plastic contact. Yes, rear only for 986 or 987 is $97 after discount

POST 5Original post

I'd be interested in a 996 TT lid liner; I'm in the UK. Del

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This quote from a club member post includes pictures and details of the installation process. "In order to give a full explanation of the product and how to install it, I ordered from Das Schild and photographed the installation. Before someone asks - "How much does it weigh" - let me answer that I did not put it on the scale but I would be surprised if it weighed more than 5-8oz at best. There is absolutely no issue with weight with this item, it doesn't weigh down your trunk lid etc, it is very light, yet plenty sturdy! I took some very detailed photos of the Das Schild and of the installation. Let's have a look at those photos shall we! First the item arrives wrapped in plastic inside its own Schild box as shown in this photo: I unwrapped the item and laid it out on the floor to get pictures of both sides, first a picture of the side that you will see whenever opening your hood followed by a picture of the backside. Notice in the picture above that there are 10 pins already installed in the Das Schild that will attach to the underside of the hood. The next photo shows the backside of the item with the foam padding designed to stop any rattling between the schild and the metal hood. This foam will compress when the item is installed. The photo also shows the 10 pins and I decided to take a close up picture so the pins themselves could be seen in more detail. They are the kind that are easy to push in, but difficult to pull back out, the press-fit type. Installation is incredibly easy and takes but a couple of minutes max. Simply line up the shield under the hood so that the pins line up with the grooves in the underside of the hood as shown in the next photo. Then simply press the pins lighly into the grooves. I started at the top of the Das Schild and worked my way down pressing each pin in a little to check for alignment and once I saw that everything was fine I pressed each pin in as far as it would go, compressing the foam on the backside in the process. Here is the Das Schild fully installed. It literally took a minute or two for the whole process. I double checked all of the pins to make sure each one was firmly seated and checked for any gaps. As you can see from this next close-up photo there are none, the Das Schild fit perfectly! Now my hood is protected from anything in the front trunk accidentally banging up into the hood and denting it from the inside out. Since the front hood is now aluminum the potential for damage is greater than the old steel hoods, and those could still be dented. The Das Schild will protect your hood and is a very easy modification. Here is a final picture of it installed showing the whole hood and trunk."

It doesn't look like shipping the SCHILD to Germany will fall under the free military shipping from what I have read on the USPS site. I do believe shipping to a Base of the US Armed Forces is close to the domestic rate. If you email us your address we can work something out. Hope you had a great 4th of July in Germany! Thank you.

POST 35Original post

I also ordered mine last night, quick and easy, hopefully I can install it this weekend ... but I don't think they can ship that fast hehehehe...

If you have signed up the SCHILD GB and have not placed your order yet, it's time to get your order in. The GB will be closing as soon as all participating rennlist members orders are processed. The prices have been adjusted on our site to reflect your discount. If you are using PayPal please send me an email or PM with your rennlist user name along with your name after you order. For those of you that have already ordered, this has been a great GB. Thank you for your participation! We are processing your orders and will be shipping them in the order received. Please be patient as we do this as quickly and efficiently as possible.

POST 37Original post

dasschild, thanks for the offer. This is one of those neat products that i would never have heard about otherwise. I have come SO close to denting the hood with my roller case . . . Looking forward to a quick install!

POST 38 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

We are bringing the group buy to an end. We want to thank all those who participated and really appreciate the terrific response!- Where’s my foam? –Over the years we have made modifications to our parts to deliver the best possible protection. Recently we changed the foam and added neoprene at the points of clip installation. The neoprene separates the liner from the bracing, minimizing contact and ultimately providing the best possible protection. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any additional questions or concerns.

POST 39 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Jim sent me a set of front & rear protectors for my 986 Boxster S all the way to Australia just before Christmas. They arrived within 7 days of ordering, came well packed and the were an easy peasy fit. The front fitted within a couple of minutes but the rear took a little longer - but that won't impact on 911 owners as you don't have a rear luggage compartment. I think the money well spent as it finishes off the underside of the hoods well - something Porsche should have addressed.

The Manheim data was the key. Different car and dealer but walked out with the truck and a check for the difference. Thanks again for the assistance!

POST 71Original post

order placed, slipped in a spare wheel cover as mine looks very tired. BTW that's the largest item I have had shipped to Japan and it's the cheapest shipping I have paid, Finally I can say parts for my 996 are cheap!

POST 73Original post

Mine has already shipped! Companies like Lid Liner and ECS should be the example for other companies to follow. Feeling the Porsche love today.

POST 75Original post

order placed. thanks again for this GB, Jim. Happy New Year and more power to your business.

POST 79Original post

I'm in for one. SF, CA, USA. Ooops. Noticed that the GB is active. Just placed the order. Looking forward to installing it. Thanks for offering the GB!

Thanks for all your help with postings-much appreciated We easily met the goal, but will keep this open a little longer for those.... promo code: renn996 http://www.lidliner.com/ Thanks to all the participants in expediting this GB. If you placed an order you should have received confirmation and tracking info.-If you have not send me a PM and I'll forward. Thanks again!

POST 83Original post

Got mine a few years back from another GB right here on Rennlist too. I like it, easy install, great fit and finish too. Cheers,

POST 84Original post

Installed in 2 minutes and looks good. The only thing I noticed is that the lid is now heavier and my struts won't keep it up. Otherwise it's a great piece.

POST 85 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Gator996-Adding any additional weight to the hood could cause worn struts to give, I'm going to assume these are oem. This is not typical for the 996, but obviously does happen and is a quick fix. -Thanks for the comments and pic(s) BTW

POST 86Original post

Yeah, the struts are on their way out after 13 years. Nothing to do with the liner although the frunk lid fell on my head so I briefly cursed the new liner even though it wasnt to blame.

POST 87Original post

My hood struts are also weaken like yours and the hood came down hard on my head the other day while I was removing my litronics, it does hurts, Oops... Time to replace those soon.

POST 88 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

ouch -I was hoping you were at least spared the bonk on the head!

POST 89 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

We have concluded this GB -Thank you all participants and once again Merry New Year!

POST 91Original post

Mine arrived in UK yesterday - Excellent service and nice product. Thanks

POST 92Original post

Mine came last week. 1 minute install. Help a buddy move today. Paid for itself the first time he tried to close the frunk. Great product!!!! Plus the spare wheel cover I added to the order makes the frunk look awesome everytime I open!

How can I say no, your on the list Order instructions sent to your email.

POST 95Original post

Got to chime in with my kudos, too. Installed in maybe 3 mins, including taking it out of the package. I feel a lot more secure when I put things in my frunk. I'd hate to be staring at a reverse indentation for the rest of the life of the car. Thanks!

POST 96Original post

I want to know when this will happen again... I missed out apparently!

We try and offer members a GB once a year and we're getting close....

POST 100Original post

I still am very happy with mine. Do you make 'em for 928s?

POST 101 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 11745263

No, these line the "frunk" and not necessary for your 928.. We appreciate the interest-we'll try and kick this off a little early this year

POST 102Original post

This looks good. Please let me know when the next GB is available.

POST 103Original post

I have one in my 991. Great product and customer service.

POST 113Original post

any idea when will the group buy start. In too.

POST 114Original post

I volunteered to start a list for the last GB and had some free time so why not do it again 30 buyers were needed then to get a 30% discount. We were able to meet this minimum since 993-997-986-987 owners also participated 1. rustymon 2. Magnetic K 3. narkose 4. Schnauzer 5. UAEGT3 6. Spyder34 7. fl996 8. fillzplace -RTB 9. 996inTX 10. It would help the vendor move forward if the people who expressed "INTEREST" can chime in to verify that they are READY TO BUY so I can annotate your name accordingly.

POST 115Original post

Would you be willing to extend this to purchases of 991 liners?

POST 120Original post

Wow, this took on a life of its own-I guess we are offering a GB, BUT, to be efficient and inventory concerns we are limiting this to the 996/986 board We will offer a GB for all other models as we approach the end of the year and post to the appropriate board At this point, it appears getting 20-996/986 members should be pretty easy, and we'll extend the 30% discount when we get there. Shipping is quoted prior to completing purchase- We should probably start a new list with only 996/986 members Thanks to all, kromdom, for assistance! If you would like additional info you can search within forum or visit us at: http://lidliner.com/

POST 189Original post

I got it and installed it and all I will say is that it looks great. Also it is very hard plastic and appears that it will provide the claimed protection. I think the cars should have come with this from the factory. Thanks again.

POST 206Original post

Looks like I got my order in just in time - it should be delivered tomorrow. Thanks for the discount!

POST 207Original post

I ordered one of these for my 997 turbo from suncoast and couldn't be more disappointed with the fit. At the front there is easily a 2mm gap and at the rear of the liner way more. The photos I saw showed it flush giving it a more factory look. It's seems as though the thick neoprene is making it sit proud. It definitely offers more protection that way but I never cram my frunk to that level. Just thought I'd give prospective buyers a heads up. YMMV as it seems the 997s aren't molded with wrap around edges like some of the other shields

POST 208 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Not sure why you are experiencing this, perhaps a superseded part for turbo? Sent you a PM on this

POST 209Original post

I love these lids. I have them in the C2 and in the GT3. Perfect fit, easy to install.

POST 210Original post

Are these easily removable, say if you wanted to take a picture of the options sticker or something? Not that I'm looking to sell, but just curious.

POST 211Original post

POST 251Original post

Done. Tried ordering it last night on my ipad, but for some reason it wouldn't go through the checkout process correctly. Worked like a charm this morning on my desktop. FYI for purchasers, the promo code entry box is not done until late in the checkout, at the same time you choose shipping. Thanks for the discount! This is a repeat buy for me. I bought one for my '99 C4 aero coupe and now am buying one for my '02. If I were thinking about it, I would've snagged the one out of my '99 before I sold it as it takes about 10 seconds to remove it. This is a great product. On my '88 BMW 325i convertible, I have a dimple and paint crack star in the middle of the trunk lid. I just had the entire car repainted and about a month later had the trunk loaded up when I closed the trunk lid and created the dimple, which now has rust. Wish I had one of these protectors for that car back then.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
