Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I’ve been looking at eBay and other sources for replacement sunvisors when I had the brilliant idea to check my 3-D printing site to see what they had.

Honestly, the 3D material is pretty inexpensive and one sun visor cover maybe uses $1 of material.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My new (to me) 2000 Carrera Cab Came in pretty clean shape. IMS and RMS were already done. One minor issue to address is the broken sunvisor lids on both the passenger and driver side. I’ve been looking at eBay and other sources for replacement sunvisors when I had the brilliant idea to check my 3-D printing site to see what they had. Some individual was kind enough to design and scan a sunvisor lid for the 996 and 986. I’m not sure if it’ll work but it’s certainly worth a try so tomorrow I am going to print out two lids and see if I can replace my broken OEM ones. I will report back here once I’m done.

POST 2Original post

RN way cool. Is there any chance your could print out another set of these? PM me so we can get price and shipping details.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I’m all about what goes around comes around …. There is a guy printing them on eBay for $30 a pair. Honestly, the 3D material is pretty inexpensive and one sun visor cover maybe uses $1 of material. I’m playing with the settings. The guy on eBay puts a metal insert to strengthen the hinges. I printed two yesterday, let me see how the install goes. Rgn

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Update : For some reason when I printed the sun visor lids at 100% size they came out smaller than the original OEM part. Not a huge deal, you can size up or down your items to be printed, provided they still fit on your print platform. The sun visor part in question might be too big for my printer. I will attempt to reprint it at the correct size and report back. Hopefully it will fit. In the meantime I have printed an extra cab latch mechanism cap.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I finally got my first decent “test print.” Next time I will increase High Detail Setting and print density. I’m skeptical about the hinges. . . I may see if I can reinforce them before installation. Work in progress . . .

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It is recommended to use ABS filament, more stable in heat. The piece I printed fit great. . . but I couldn’t get it on the hinges. . . broke the tabs. I’ll print another one and try again.

POST 8Original post

Gotta love that.... Well that didn't work, bake another one!
