Another option is to get your local OPC (official porsche centre in case you were wondering!) to fit the little gizmo that disables the front airbag when the seat is fitted into the front seat.

I'm not a fan of meaty cluctches and needing a left leg like a treetrunk to change gear so the tip appeals to me, and also to my wife.

Just wondering though, do you leave in in auto mostly or use the tip to change up and down, if you know what I mean?
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi guys
Just a question to all you 996 owners, possibly those of you with children.
I'm about to start searching over the next couple of months for a good 996, budget is circa £25-£30K., preferably closer to 25K. Ideally I'd like a cabrio, blue or black with the tan leather.
Can anyone give me an idea of just how practical it is with a childseat in the back? The little man's only 13 months but it would be nice not to leave him at home and still put the roof down. I can't find too many pictures which show the rear seat space on the 996 - obviously most sellers don't usually need to show this, but want to get an idea of practicality.
Any comments as to handling differences between the cabrio and coupe? Are there any items I should specifically look for on the car ie: traction control etc that you would really recommend?
If it's just not workable I'll have to go for the coupe or pay the babysitter more!
Any advice gladly appreciated and if anyone is selling come Feb time feel free to contact me. Thanks for the help.

Welcome!
There looks to be a bit less room in a cabrio, plus the rear seat back is more upright. This may make for problems fitting a seat, but Porsche themselves may be able to advise.
I'm pretty sure a Porsche Prince seat would fit- usually a few knocking about second-hand.
Another option is to get your local OPC (official porsche centre in case you were wondering!) to fit the little gizmo that disables the front airbag when the seat is fitted into the front seat. Then its just a question of persuading MrsS to sit in the back!

Sounds like you want my car - Lapis cab with tan interior. Tha cab isn't as taught as the cab, but the back seats are roughly the same size. With the top down, I have had my nephew in the back and he was ok. Although there is definately more wind without the wind deflector up.
There have been plenty of threads on child seats and which ones specifically fit the 996. A child up to 12 seems to fit in the back ok.
I don't have PSM in my C2 and don't miss it that much. Just have to be a bit more careful in the wet.
For £30K you should get a Y plate cab if you look around enough. Not sure that will get you a facelift though.

Or there is the Targa option, much the same stiffness of the cab, although same extra weight as the cab, light and airy and a lot more secure. Actually a tad more headroom in the back for larger kids. However as I found and Fuchs benefited from, some very tall car seats do not fit because of the re-enforced rail that runs down the side of the roof.
You can do a search on previous features lists. One must have IMHO are rear parking sensors.

Great stuff folks, keep it coming!!
I have a seat ready to go that fits a 993, the old Mamas and Paps one. However, the 996 is a tad wider so should cope with better, more modern seats.
BTW , whats PSE?

Lack of PSM wouldn't stop me buying a car I liked. It is stanard on a C4 by the way. So you will only find a C2 without it. In it's base form the C2 handles like a dream and you have to push it on a wet day to get the back end to move. If I were getting a newer C2S or C4S (with 55bhp more) then I would spec it if I was buying a new one.
PSM would also be useful when starting off on a trackday - although you will have turned it off by the end.
Mother has had hers for three years and has never seen the PSM light come on!
I have a tip - which I enjoy, but the majority vote is going to be manual. Definately drive before you buy.

Sorry no - I love it too much! Won't be selling for a few years yet. But you won't be short of advice on here though.
Good luck.

How smooth do you find the 'box in traffic when in full auto? I'm not a fan of meaty cluctches and needing a left leg like a treetrunk to change gear so the tip appeals to me, and also to my wife.
