The Boxster and Cayman models use a higher-performance mechanical vacuum pump to provide the vacuum for the brake booster and various vacuum valves.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hello everyone I bought my first Cayman two weeks ago and I’m in need of some advice. I installed a SOUL catback and am trying to figure out where to tap into my vacuum source for the valves. My car did not come with PSE and the instructions through SOUL show where they tap into but that source isn’t on my car I am assuming it’s a 3.4L they’re showing and may be different than the 2.9. Can someone please help me find a good vacuum source or at least show a vacuum diagram as I can’t even find that for this car. It’s a 2009 Cayman base 2.9L. Thank you

POST 2Original post

There is a mechanical vacuum pump hanging off the end of the bank 2 camshaft: From the manual (for 2009 2.9 engine): Vacuum Pump The Boxster and Cayman models use a higher-performance mechanical vacuum pump to provide the vacuum for the brake booster and various vacuum valves. Its familiar rotary vane technology as well as its outer position on cylinder head 4-6 and its drive via the outlet camshaft have been adopted. Since all vacuum in the vehicle probably originates from this pump - it might be a good spot to add an extra fitting for your exhaust.

I did figure it out and also made a quick video of my routing in case someone has the same questions

POST 4Original post

Great video. Thanks for showing us the way. Now the $1M question. How does it sound? I'm thinking of the same upgrade myself.

POST 5Original post

Thank you. I think it sounds great! I only have a crappy cellphone sound clip and it doesn’t do it’s justice. Besides it sounds much better under load. What I like a lot about it is that you can manage the noise and not be obnoxious with the exhaust. You put your foot in the floor and it’s that perfect sound. The sound finally matches the car, I am very happy with it.

I realise that the post is 4yrs old, but thanks for clear description of your install, I’ve just bought a valvetronic exhaust for my 2012 987.2 cayman , here in the UK.
