Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. While an aerokit can, as you say, "be fitted in an afternoon", I am specifically looking for the numbers of these cars that were produced with this fitted from the factory.
Leading evidence: 'Install from the factory' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install from the factory' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Our floor mats were a dealer installed option I believe

The available list also changed over the years too.

I ran across a production spreadsheet on Google Docs that shows production numbers of various models, but does not show Aerokit cars.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Does anyone have the production number for cars delivered from the factory with Aerokits? I am specifically looking for the figure from 2001, but would be interested to see these numbers for any year as well as overall.
I ran across a production spreadsheet on Google Docs that shows production numbers of various models, but does not show Aerokit cars. I suspect they are simply lumped into the Carrera Coupe number.

NOTE: I have NO IDEA if these are accurate.
Given that you can still buy factory areo kits and put them on and they could be factory ordered or dealer installed when new , it's not likely they kept numbers . Being german it's possible though .
You'd probably have to write to porsche in Germany .
I'm sure the numbers for factory builds exist, it just isn't something we are ever likely to know as I doubt Porsche would release it.
I would agree that we'll likely never know the number of post-production retrofits though, but I would assume that for the purposes of this discussion we'd be talking about the factory optioned cars.
Ah, but which 18s? There were a few to select from. The available list also changed over the years too. She, for example, opted for the Glossy Turbo Look wheels.
Our floor mats were a dealer installed option I believe
Ah, but the rare and elusive "sunroof delete" option would be of the cosmetic flavor and is indeed desirable to the point of commanding a bit of a premium.
Sometimes wanting to know such numbers isn't an issue of collectibility, it's just curiosity. I would be curious to know how many cars were built exactly like ours, but that's just to know how unique it may be rather than to try to assign some intrinsic value to it (the sunroof delete and extra levels of leather to put it in a small group).
As you pointed out, the AK is an easy after build add with no functional or visual difference other than the option list print out. So unless you really want an AK car and plan to make it a show piece where "as the factory intended" is important, you are correct that a factory AK car and a after market AK car have no difference in value (everything else being equal).
The sunroof delete option is structural not cosmetic and can't be easily retrofitted .
Those other things could be fitted in an afternoon
The reason it is desirable is for a track car it's 20 lbs lighter and the car is more rigid structurally .
Hardly the same thing , like the difference between shooting a bullet and throwing one

First I'm curious and I'd like to determine how rare this was as a factory option. I've recently been showing my car locally and thought that this might be good information. It is one thing that sets my car apart from the majority. It was a fairly expensive option and they don't seem to be too prevalent even with the ability to add these post-production, so I thought that the number might be relatively low.
Second I think you may be wrong about this:
If you look at the classic car market, cosmetic options do make a car more collectible. The aerokit brings a premium now, and has the potential to be sought after as this car becomes a classic. Will it be as collectible as a GT3, obviously not.
MH, I agree that I feel it will bring a bit more value in a few years when these great cars are "collectible", I also think the aero cars that are fitted from the factory will hold more weight, value wise, than dealer fitted or after market.
In the mean time, if you find out factory production numbers that would be great! I live in Michigan, Metro Detroit to be specific, I see everything, $100k+ muscle cars (daily) brand new Z06's last gen ZR-1's Hellcats (daily), Ford GT's etc, some cars people never get to appreciate, even the west side of the state I do not see cars like I do back home. Ok Will, where the hell are you going with this rant, well, I also see a couple of 996's around, in my area 2 times I have seen another 996 with aero, a guards red (like mine) and a silver 1 like yours actually.
Now in Cali, Fl or some states like that, I may see more aero cars, actually I know I will, but I do think it is a pretty rare option.
I went on a fall color tour, there had to have been 5 to 7 996's, mine was the only aero car.
