Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hi, just replacing my front brake discs, pads etc. Thought this time around I would look to replace the damper plates. Is it important that these plates stick to the pads on contact or not. Does it make any difference? The damper plates I've ordered have a sticky panel on the back. But the ones I'm not replacing do not have sticky backs, I'm confused. Does anyone use brake slip as well or is this not required, thanks

POST 2Original post

I've just changed mine and the dampers were not stuck to the pads. Whether the heat had made them become unstuck I don't know. All I think they are there for is anti squeal so I would not use copper slip. I put gt3 callipers on my car the other week and they don't have dampers at all. I'm sure Richard will answer your question.

POST 3Original post

If your plates don't have stick pads and you find you get squealing brakes, try some CeraTEC paste between pad and plate - don't use copper grease or anything else. CeraTEC is dirt cheap and readily available through eBay.

POST 4Original post

If they dont stick to the pad they are useless. The idea is that when the piston retracts back into the caliper they pull the pad away from the disc and stop the squeal. Ceratec will allow the pad to move freely in the caliper better but you really want new anti squeal pads or if you reuse the old olds make sure they are stuck on well with a good glue or double sided tape

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Excellent, thanks. As the new plate had sticky tape on I used double sided tape on all the others
