Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I assume it means nothing to me except I 100% need to get the bearing replaced on my own dime sometime soon.
Leading evidence: 'Replace on my own dime sometime soon' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Inspect metal in the filter during the pre-purchase inspection' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I had Hennessey drain the oil and inspect for metal in the filter during the pre-purchase inspection.

I put on the LN Engineering oil change kit with the magnets.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I was just curious if my 996 was in the affected engines list from the class action.
I found the text of the settlement, and I couldn't find my serial range. The closest I got was the following:
"WP0CA29932S650004-WP0CA29952S655611"
My serial is
WP0CA29992S655496
My engine serial is M96 / [phone removed] but they didn't list engine serials in the settlement.
None of the other serial ranges seemed remotely close to my number, so I didn't re-post them.
Seems like my car wouldn't not have been in the serial range of the settlement at all.
Did I interpret this correctly?
Please, don't post anything about whether or not the IMS has been replaced or not, I'm just trying to figure out if my car would have been in the settlement ranges.
Thanks!
Mark
Hmm. So that means my car WAS in the lawsuit. However, I just bought this car last Thursday and I'm the 4th owner. It's got 56K miles and it's been 13 years since it was new.
I did buy it from the same dealer group who originally sold the car in 2002.
What does this mean to me? I assume it means nothing to me except I 100% need to get the bearing replaced on my own dime sometime soon.

You have a single row, serviceable bearing.
There are many high mileage cars on this forum with original bearings.
Replace it if it is causing you stress.
It was bought from Jim Ellis Porsche in 2002. I bought it from Jim Ellis Audi a couple of weeks ago. The service records look like a mix between Jim Ellis Porsche and Hennessey Porsche. All in Atlanta.
The car is in showroom condition. I had Hennessey drain the oil and inspect for metal in the filter during the pre-purchase inspection. The oil was a beautiful honey color and we didn't see even a glitter flake in the oil. Oil pressure is a solid 5+ at startup, 3 at idle and 4 at freeway speed.
I put on the LN Engineering oil change kit with the magnets. In 3,500 miles (60K) I plan to change over to DT40 and do the 60K service (belt, plugs, filters) and pro-actively replace the water pump. I think the Tip is due a filter and oil at 60K as well, so I'll take care of that.
Then I think I'm just going to drive it and not worry about it. Maybe at the 90K service I'll replace the IMS. I'm not going to worry about it for now.
I also snagged a BendPak locally, so I'm good to go!
Interesting case. The owner at the time maybe was traveling or moving alot and missed the class action or maybe decided not to go for it. Thx for the photo. Good luck.
