Ok folks....i did it. I just completed my radar 'hardwire'. Its easy enough for any...and i mean any of you to do. a couple of tools and some time and patience and whaaalaaa. I will be either posting pictures in this thread or K-Man s has requested i get them to him so he can put them in the articles section.
This really is a safe, clean, and easy way to get rid of the ugly phone cord dangling from your 12 volt
plug
.
As an fyi...i actually hardwired my V1. Some of you know I prefer the Passport 8500 but, my six year old got a hold of my wifes detector and needless to say...its toast. She didnt want the V1 cause its 'too big and boxy' So...I gave her my new passport 8500 x-50 and hardwired that into her Murano. So....for V1 owners you will see exactly how the Valentine can be wired into the
cayman
...but, it really will work for any detector with a hardwire kit. more to come..........
Looking forward to seeing more... now just don't get a ticket in that red rocket beauty.
ok folks...all done. The easy way to hardwire your detector is posted in the Articles section under performance mods. Hope this helps..../fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/beer2.gif
Just did it. Followed your instructions and it worked perfectly!!!
Thanks, you da man!!!
Actually, it's posted under electronics - not performance mods. Good job!!
A suggestion to enhance the installation may be to use an ATC Fuse Tap, making certain to connect the power wire to the 'fused side of the fuse, to afford full circuit protection.

Several people have asked me for some details on the fuse installation. I pretty much used RedRocket's technique, but I didn't really want to drill the fuse box. Here's the detail of the 'soldered in fuse.' My
Cayman
is VIN 0690, and position C1 is empty. The bottom blade is switched 12V, the top wire j(the protected side of the circuit) ust goes out the back of the fuse box. Use the bolt for ground per RedRocket. Course, if you have to change the fuse, you'll have to get out the trusty soldering iron...
