Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

2002 996TT At higher speeds the outer rubber windshield seal keeps popping out on the top, even after I squeeze it back into place. Question: Is there a sealant (glue) type product that keeps this in place or is this piece just worn out and needs to be replace? Searched Pelicanparts.com but didn't quite find it. Pics below: Thx!

POST 2Original post

Just had my windshield replaced yesterday. A new seal came with the glass from Porsche. There was no sealant used. I watched the tech put that seal on and I don't see how would be done without removing the windshield. He had quite a time getting that seal on. It took longer for that than to remove and reinstall the windshield.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thx for intel Gator. Nice avatar btw. heh So mine may have popped out somehow and really isn't going to go back into place without reinstalling the windshield? The whole seal feels pretty loose around the windshield but super loose on top of course. Did he use some type of tool to fit/squeeze the seal into place?

POST 4Original post

From my limited knowledge, this thing simply squeezes in place by hard pressing it in.

POST 5Original post

He did it all by hand. He used window cleaner as a lube. Maybe since the seal was new it was harder to work with. He did say as it heats up in the sun over time it be be more pliable and seal better. I'm not 100% certain that the windshield has to be out to replace the seal but, watching it being done,I don't see how it could be done effectively with the glass in. But, if it keeps popping out, maybe a little dab or two of windshield sealant might do the trick to keep it seated.
