But I had thought about getting the 18" Cayman S wheels on the car and ordering the SD wheels later - so the dealer checked with parts and then quoted me the much higher price.

Plus when you put a clean set of rims on a 3 or 4 year old car talk about adding value.

I am doing the research now on the aftermarket wheels.I want to lower mine just a bit first. When I make the change I can talk to you about my stock wheels(price, etc.) then if you are still interested.

I test drove a Cayman with 19's and I prefer the ride of the 18's.....I just love the style of the Techart Formula wheel.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Does anybody know if Techart will do a wheel exchange for stock 18' Cayman rims. I am seriously considering the 18' Formula wheels. They are the same as what is on their modded Cayman on their website. I just don't want 20's. I test drove a Cayman with 19's and I prefer the ride of the 18's.....I just love the style of the Techart Formula wheel.
Thanks a bunch pollard. I see that they do in fact do exchanges. I have emailed them and will post their response when I get it.
Thanks again. Thats why I love this Forum.
I heard back from David at wheelenhancement.com on the wheel trade. He indicated that they will give $900 for standard 18' Cayman S wheels on a trade.
I inquired about the 18' Techart Formula rims. The price for them is $2,770 plus another $260 for15mm spacers (required) and Porsche lugnuts. All tolled it will cost about $2,000 (after the trade credit).
Hope this is helpful to anyone who is interested in putting different rims on their Croc.
I'm checking on that. He did say that if you want 19's or 20's, the lip of the fender wheels need to be rolled to accomodate the wide wheels and tires. No thanks on that one for me.
There is a set of these wheels on Germany Ebay for sale. Just type in 'techart'. I don't know if the offset is correct though. You'll have to compair it w/ the Techart web spec chart.
If you decide to sell your Cayman S wheels let me know. I need some wheels for the track for my 987 Boxster S. I don't need tires just wheels.
Thanks,
Carl

I will definately not do the wheel exchange. I just found out that the stock 18' Cayman rims cost $866/each if you purchase them directly through Porsche.IfI decide toget the Techart rims I will definately sell the stock rims myself.I know I won't get $866/each for them but Iwill get a helluva lot more than $900 for all four. If I can't, I will keep them before I 'give' them away.

That makes more sense. $900 for all four seemed like a "great deal" to me as a potential buyer. I think the SD wheels I ordered are about $7,000 for a set of four from Porsche.
They were about $2,000 more as ordered with the car.
But I had thought about getting the 18" Cayman S wheels on the car and ordering the SD wheels later - so the dealer checked with parts and then quoted me the much higher price. He was surprised also that they were that much when ordered separately from Porsche. Anyway after that, I decided to get them with the car and shop around for some 18" wheels for winter tires.
Also, I'm just going from memory and the SD price was with tires. It actually might of been a bit higher than 7K with tires, but I'd have to call them again to find out as I didn't write the exact quote down at the time. I just remember being a little shocked it was so high as I was expecting it to be around 4K.

ALM, keep us posted on that lowering ride height venture, and good luck. Have you checked out the Sportec wheels? Man, if i'd seen them first, I'd have gone 18" stock (and mounted snows on those) and bought some black 19" Sportecs for my Arctic Silver over black with PCCB. It would look killah with the contrast of the calipers for a spot of color (not to mention weighing less, & goin' faster). I went with the ten spoke 19" jobs.

I initially saw those babies in one of my magazines on a Boxster S and thought they looked fantastic. I just need tomake upmy mind. I keep going back and forth on the Techart Formulas (5 star design) and the Champion, Sportecstyle (spoke type). I want to stay with 18's though. My car does not have PASM so I was just going to go with springs. Then I start reading about coilovers and got even more confused......until I saw the price of the coilovers/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/cry_smile.gif. I think I'll just go with springs but I want to wait until they come out with springs specifically for the Cayman. I don't know if anybody has them specifcally for the croc as of yet.

Mitch,
By CS, I assume you mean Carrera S wheels, the ones with the square-ish cut-outs, not the Carrera Sport wheels which have the polish rim and the 10 spokes painted in grey right? If it were the latter I'd be interested, but I think you mean the former.
I hope to take delivery of my car very soon ( dealer has it in storage ) - I checked E-bay and there were no Cayman S 18' wheels there so no market pricing as yet - check out my classified ad, and if interested PM me for more details or pricing options.
Personally, I think you should keep your rims and not trade or put them up for sale. I know they take up some space and you could sell them but since you will not really get much for them I would keep them for a rainy day.
my bestfriend is suffering from the effects of not keeping the stock rims.... such a hassle if you ever want to make a change.
Also, I guess if you wanted to think about it that aftermarket rims are a zero add on a trade or resale in the auto industry.
Aftermarket rims are great to resale because there are not that many sets of nice rims available that are not OEM on ebay.
Plus when you put a clean set of rims on a 3 or 4 year old car talk about adding value. It makes the vehicle dramatically better to the eye. I look at these Porsche's all day long and put values on peoples cars as my part of my job .
