I have installed new rotors and pads (all 4), had the wheels re-balanced, and replaced the right wheel bearing, which was in question.

Suggestion

Totally different car I know, but I've had to replace the thrust arm bushings on my M5 twice because of shaking during braking from high speeds.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The front of my '03 996 Turbo shakes on the track, only after the car heats up a bit. It occurs mostly under heavy braking at the end of a straight, however, it also occurs intermittently at other times. Once in a while there will also be slight vibration while NOT on the brakes as well. I have installed new rotors and pads (all 4), had the wheels re-balanced, and replaced the right wheel bearing, which was in question. I have had both slicks and streets on it as well to determine if it was a wheel issue. It is much more pronounced with the slicks, but does occur with the street tires as well. I have asked numerous people in PCA who are pretty darn savvy, and everyone is scratching their heads. Any ideas??? I'm just about ready to lose my mind. Thanks!!

If the car has more than 30,000 miles on it or if it has any mods, it is shaking because the car is a high mileage piece of track garbage. -Dock Hey, I 'll give you $50,000 for it. Right now. No questions asked. -Blswan

You don't say anything about the suspension setup, or whether you have checked everything suspension/steering related. Could be something related to the tie-rods or worn bushings in the upper/lower control arms. When you brake heavily, the mass of the car moves forward and puts a lot of stress on those components. POST 9Original post

Totally different car I know, but I've had to replace the thrust arm bushings on my M5 twice because of shaking during braking from high speeds. Because of the ease of replacement I went with new thrust arms rather than trying to install just the bushings. I see there are several aftermarket replacements but you could go back with factory parts and see if that helps; assuming you haven't addressed the thrust arms already. Here's one of the aftermarket options: http://www.evoms.com/porsche_996_996.../ts-00-001.htm

I have the same problem. Power steering is overheating. From what I gather a flush of power steering fluid, steering cooler and lightweight under drive pulley will help. Also Id consider removing the fwd.
