But i'm looking at getting my first Porsche, and am just wondering what you need to run the 996 on?

I don't think anyone's done a proper test, though.

My friend runs his 996 C4S on 95 RON without any problems - I can tell no huge differences in "road" performance when following him in my 997 C2S - and I supposedly have a 10% power hike over him (I always use 97 RON as well!).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

okay, sorry for the newbie (and possibly stupid) question... But i'm looking at getting my first Porsche, and am just wondering what you need to run the 996 on? Can it handle normal unleaded? or does it have to be super? Are there any benifits to Ultimate/V-power type fuels?

POST 2Original post

POST 3Original post

Any petrol supplied in the UK should be ok. The car detects the fuel quality and adjusts things* to suit. Porsche say that 97 RON or better will give better performance and mpg from the car, as the engine was designed to use run on it so the mechanical stuff* at the back will be at its optimum settings. I don't think anyone's done a proper test, though. ------------------------------ *technical term
