Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Outcome without a verified action link

As far as the cap falling off for others, so far no one else has reported this, but then again no one else here is club racing their Cayman either that I know of and this may simply be a sign of either an initial loose install that worked loose over time or from the increased stress that your motor has been under racing that caused it to work loose.

POST 1Original post

This weekend ,the Cayman S developed a oil leak. The seal/cap which closes off the bore hole inwhich the camshaft is inserted, decided to fall out. It maybe an issue for all of us. Ernie

POST 3Original post

I am getting smoke at start up, it goes away after about 30 seconds, but it is white smoke and can get thick at times. I am going to the dealer thursday to check it out.

POST 4Original post

Craig, I've heard that 30 seconds of white smoke is normal on Porsches. Someone posted a thread recently which described the same thing. A member here (also a Porsche salesman) stated that this is normal and when they start up the Porsches in the showroom, all Porsches smoke for at first. I don't know if this will put your mind at ease, but I just thought I'd let you know. Your dealer will probably say the same thing. It won't hurt to get it checked out though. Shane

POST 5Original post

Craig and Ernie, Mine now has quite a bit of smoke at first start as well. I'm going to the dealer today and wondered what your dealer said?

POST 6Original post

Ernie, I'm assuming you titled this thread Oil Smoke/Leak because the dripping oil from the leak was smoking on the engine, NOT any smoke coming out of the tailpipe as I don't see how the cap falling off would allow oil to get by the pistons/valves and out the exhaust pipe. I think your message title has confused a few people. If I'm wrong please explain. As far as the cap falling off for others, so far no one else has reported this, but then again no one else here is club racing their Cayman either that I know of and this may simply be a sign of either an initial loose install that worked loose over time or from the increased stress that your motor has been under racing that caused it to work loose. Certainly something to keep an eye on though. Do you have an engine diagram where you can point out which plug it was?
