Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Thanks to suggestions I managed to adjust the headlight so that it was no longer pointing towards the sky and blinding everyone in its path and the C4S passed its MOT.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Suggestion
There is a shutter inside which moves to change the beam shape between dipped and high beam, you need to see that the shutters are working, and that the overall height adjustment is working too.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Took my C4S for an MOT back in November and it failed on both headlight beam patterns. "Projected beam image is obviously incorrect". At that point nothing had changed other than I had given the lenses a bit of a refurb, sanding down with wet and dry and then giving them a polish and a coat of clear lacquer.
The car was garaged over winter so I didn't get round to doing anything until the weather warmed up a bit and once it did, I changed both headlight levelling struts as they were seized. I also gave the lights a bit of a further polish as they still looked slightly hazy. Second time around, it failed the MOT only on the nearside headlight. Again, "projected beam image is obviously incorrect".
My question is, is it likely that I simply havent done a very good job of refurbishing the lights (there is a slight haze still, but they are damn sight better than they were before the refurb when they were extremley yellowed and foggy)? Could this be the simple cause for my MOT failures?
Or, is it more likely that the projector has failed and I need to look at replacing those?
TIA
it's ultimately a height are direction issue

If you point them at the garage door at night there should be an obvious line where the light is cut off, and when you put main beam on it should go a bit higher, both sides should be the same. Also when you first turn them on the height adjuster mechanism moves through its full travel so you should see them move up then down to normal working level.
There is a shutter inside which moves to change the beam shape between dipped and high beam, you need to see that the shutters are working, and that the overall height adjustment is working too.
Yeh I have the line on my offside headlight but my nearside is just a blob! There is no distinctive line. Will wait for it to get dark and try again in front of the garage door. Both o/s and n/s adjust up/down when I turn the headlamps on. Seems perhaps like its somehow got out of level and just needs readjusting
Its good and bad news...that always seems to be the way with these cars.
The good news first. Thanks to suggestions I managed to adjust the headlight so that it was no longer pointing towards the sky and blinding everyone in its path and the C4S passed its MOT. Great, get on and drive it. No...
The bad news. On arrival at the MOT place it wouldn't restart afte I parked it up. The battery was completely flat despite having been on trickle charge all winter and it starting fine from my house only minutes earlier. Warning light popped up "Warning battery / generator" after leaving MOT place last week which was the first time it had been driven since November. Thought I might have a bit more timebut alas, no. Scanned it and get code P1601 which is "CAN timeout instrument cluster". Some investigation leads me to believe the voltage regulator has failed so a new one is on order. Considered alternator but as a new one was fitted in last 4 years going to try this first. One day I will get to drive this car again...
Side note...fun drive home from the MOT place after he hooked me up to his jump pack to get me going again. Alarm sounding, lights flashing, bunny hopping all the way home as the car almost cut out numerous times. Fortuntely its only a 2 min journey back to my house.
the CAN timeout instrument cluster is normally due to changing to a none stock head unit. get the same error on mine.
I would jump start the car and the see what voltage you have on the dash. it should be close to 14v
I have PCCM+. Been in for 3 years although did need to get it replaced under warranty around a year or so ago. This is a brand new battery only installed it in November and the car hasn’t moved since. Sat on trickle charge plugged into a CTEK. Voltage on the dash has been gradually dropping ever since the “Warning battery / generator” fault appeared.
