Mine has a 4 year gap with around 40k miles added and based off MOT's it was used regularly, so this wasnt a bother for me and i was happy with the price negotiated.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After some wise advice please….Looking at a 996 40 Anniversary model advertised for sale. All checks out and is a lovely, very very tidy example with lots spent. Issue is it looks like it’s sat for 10 yrs with no service history, during this time it’s clocked up a total of 10k miles. Since then it’s been fully recommissioned, major service and total overhaul, and passed bore scope / IMS done etc. Is this gap a problem ? To me it is not but does it affect resale? Cheers

POST 2Original post

It will affect resale, absolutely. A gap that long in service history, whilst not always logical, is a big barrier for most of your average buyers.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

(Should add that most of those miles were in first 3 yrs, it then appears to have sat in storage for the remainder of that time with just miles to the MOT most years)

POST 4Original post

How thorough has the recommissioning been? Seals can dry out with no use and I’d be interested to know how much work has gone into making it good for the road?

Thanks , £10k spent , major service, bore scope, ims and rms, suspension revamp including top mounts and control arms, manifold gaskets , also sold with 6 month warranty

POST 6Original post

Get it bought as by the time you decide you want it it'll be gone......... i don't buy cars thinking about resale value, i buy them to enjoy and drive... we wouldn't buy anything if we worried about selling on unless of course you flip cars regularly. These are a rare car indeed and i'd love one. Check the details of the warranty and if you're confident that the car's a good un, pay a reputable indy for a full inspection for peace of mind.

POST 8Original post

There's quite a few of them for sale. Have a look at the others, if the gap in history bothers you? Phil Raby ERA Classics Piper Performance Private FGP (taken from 40 Jahre 911 )

POST 9Original post

For some odd reason these cars appear to be very difficult to sell - they shouldn’t be, so if you buy it the gap in service history might work against you come resale - or not, but you’ll have to factor this in the offer that you make.

Because they are overpriced for what they are?

POST 11Original post

Completely agree with the above, I’ve never quite understood why anybody would pay the recent asking prices for a 40th. I think most people seeking a 996 would feel the same, hence they are generally considered to be overpriced. But, there is always something for somebody and if you believe there is a certain amount of cachet attached to a ‘limited edition’ car and the plaque that goes with it, then you might justify the asking prices.

POST 12Original post

Compared to a 996.1 they have an extra 49BHP, that's probably why they command the price i suppose but i'm not sure that GT Silver ( nice ) and the extra power adds £10k+ to the price of a " base " 996....... limited edition though, for once, really does mean limited edition and that alone commands a premium. Anyone know the price difference when new compared to a 996.2...?

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 2731716

In 2003 the Carrera 996.2 cost £57.5k. The X51 Power Kit was an option costing nearly £9k. I don't know what a 40 Jahre car cost at that time.

As others have said, it will affect resale value, so if you want the car make sure youre happy with the price i.e. its adjusted for the gap. Mine has a 4 year gap with around 40k miles added and based off MOT's it was used regularly, so this wasnt a bother for me and i was happy with the price negotiated. 1 year prior to the gap it had 16k spent on the engine so i was fairly confident in the car, as it sounds like you may be with yours and its recent 10k spend.
