I do want to keep the sports seats, so changing the seats is out.

I take it you've set the seat to its lowest position using the side level?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've recently taken ownership of a 996.1 C2 manual coupe, which I love, but i'd quite like to sit a little lower. The car has the sports seats, is there any way of lowering these? The steering wheel is on full extend, but I find my leg is brushing the underside of the steering wheel when i brake. Thanks
Thanks for the links. I do want to keep the sports seats, so changing the seats is out. The steering column extension looks a bit pricey!
The console delete wouldn't really help as I need to sit lower or have the wheel higher, and that would do neither. Looks like i'll have to live with it...
I'm in the same boat PGR.
I added smaller diameter steering wheel which has sorted the problem with my legs touching the bottom of the wheel. But now the tops of the dials are obscured so I want to lower my seats.
It doesn't look like theres simple solution to this.
has anybody been able to get the oem sports hard back seats in the 996 any lower? not by much maybe inch or 2
or are you stuck because of the oem runners and fixings?
thanks

Thread 'Sitting lower/new seats'

Im trying to sit lower in my 996 sports seats, tried everything and reluctant to start messing around with the foam. Can any one suggest best seats to help?
I have boxter read interior, so if after market I will get re-trimmed. I've seen the 997 options, but not convinced they look 'in place' love resto-mod look and have alcantar wheel and handbrake...
Thank you

thanks for the details. and not an easy thing
I want to keep the sports hardback seats as its a 40 anni and the interior is unique/rare
might look at the spacer option. I need to extend the wheel fully towards me too as not sure that is.
just wondering if you could put a small spacer under the front of the runners and bolts? might tilt me back a bit.
To get into a good space on mine I've switched to 997 sports seats, GT3 console delete and the Momo wheel. The wheel is narrower, which stops it fowling your legs when turning. The GT3 console give your legs more room. These are both great but ultimately switching to the 997 seats makes the biggest difference for comfort. They are lower, deeper and more supportive. They easily give you the 2 inches you're looking for.
Switching seats back and forth is pretty easy, aside from the wiring. If you can pick up a pair from a breakers (997 or 987) you can try them out and if they don't work, shift them on. Keep the 996 ones if you've got the space and then you can pick and choose between them.
It looks like the 987/997 Sport Seats are a really good option but they're very hard to come by and quite expensive at £2k
The comfort seats are plentiful and way cheaper but probably no different to the 996 ones but would be interesting to know if anyone has done this swap and can report on any difference.
I doubted you then checked eBay. I think I paid just over £500 for mine 18 months ago, the fact they're now 2k is crazy. I should have bought a few.more sets at the time! A shame though as they're a major improvement.
