...just nip up the bolts on the purge valve ...mine did the same 2hen pressure tested a few years back so I tightened them up and no issues since
Leading evidence: 'Test few years back so i' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean bucket' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Ah, I did not use the vac from the pressure test kit, I used a different one which i had purchased before buying the pressure test kit.!!!!

The rive and refill was the method I used when I rebuilt my Boxster engine.

You will also need a large clean bucket to put the coolant mix in.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just tried out the pressure tester to see how it worked.
Evening all,
Looking for some advice on the coolant purge valve on my C4S
I’m replacing both radiators on the weekend so bought a vacuum coolant kit.
Just tried out the pressure tester to see how it worked. I pumped it up to 15psi, the black purge valve on top of the coolant tank raised as the pressure increased, then I could see coolant bubbling around the bolts of the black coolant bleeder. (See video/picture) The pressure dropped over 15 mins down to about 5 psi and seemed to plateau.
Does this mean the black valve is toast too and need replacing? Or am I missing something here. I know the radiators have a leak so I’m not surprised about the drop in PSI, but I assume this escape of air/coolant is not how this valve is supposed to work?
Appreciate any help as always!
Any leak will compromise the cars cooling system efficiency, so the leaks around the purge valve have to be attended to.
I think I have the same purge/pressure test kit that you have.
The purge valve: I have not had to work on this but it could mean nothing more than a replacement gasket as the purging does not take place through the seal as per your 2nd picture.
Do you have a compressor to vaccum purge the system to eliminate air locks?
Thanks Martin, I've ordered the replacement O-rings, hopefully these give it a solid seal. If not I'll get a replacement valve on order.
Yep compressors ready to go. Did you have any trouble fitting the purge tool under the deck lid?
No, none at all.
You will need to vac purge 2 or 3 times to get all the air out. By that i mean 1st vac with no water in the cooling system which will get most of th 25 litres of coolant mix in. then do it again with the coolant in. This is where it gets messy as the vac will suck out coolany as well as air so you will need to make sure there is a plastic hose fitted to the 'out flow' part of the fitting otherwise your car will be covered in coolant. The 2nd go should do the trick, but be prepared for a 3rd go if required.
And make sure there are no air leaks before doing it.
On a final note give the block a good flush out as well.
Enjoy!!!
I have both of these. I bought the 2nd item first when i needed to vac purge my 996.1 C4. It worked perfectly.
I then wanted to pressure test the cooling system of my VW golf and bought the 1st item. The 28 pce kit has every adaptor for most cars which is why I bought the bigger set, and also included the vacuum purge kit.
If you just want to vac purge then item 2 is ideal.
I hope this helps.

Pardon our interruption...
I bought this kit…
Pardon our interruption...
Wouldn’t recommend for vacuum filling the 996 as I couldn’t get the valve to fit under the deck lid. The hand pump was good for pressure testing. I ended up just opening bleed valve, drive, re fill, drive, re fill. Needed about 5/6 trips before the radiators started warming up. Seems to have worked but took a lot longer!
The one Martin suggested looks much better…

Thanks NC.
The rive and refill was the method I used when I rebuilt my Boxster engine. I'm not sure whether to stick to that with the 911 or go with Vacuum refill. The kit Martin used looks pretty cheap.
It is well made and it works beautifully. Dont forget that you need a compressor to use it.
You will also need a large clean bucket to put the coolant mix in.
