Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Test by someone who knows what they’re doing' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check hoses , water pump and most importantly the radiators' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I think 911virgin have a video on replacing these, from memory it might require removing the front sub frame and will require a geo upon replacement.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi, my coolant level seems to constantly revert back to just below min, see photo. I’ve topped up with 0.5ltr recently but it’s disappeared back to previous level. Never had the coolant / temp light show though or any overheat. Have checked around tank and can’t see any visible leak, the only thing I wonder is the car was drained and refilled last October , could it still be purging air ?? I’ve just opened the purge valve (in photo) to see if this helps. Any advice be appreciated.
Not likely to be purging still. How many hours running before it drops below Min?
Would it go lower than Min level if you didn't top it up? If yes then you have a leak or a crack in a cylinder head. You should be able to see a leak by dried out pink stuff wherever it is. Check all hoses , water pump and most importantly the radiators which means removing front bumper and air con condensors.
Coolant issues are increasingly common on this forum.
In general because of the distance between the header tank and the radiators the only sure way to drain and refill a 996/997 is by vaccum purging. I.E. sucking the air out and making the vaccum suck back in the coolant. Having said thatthe purging needs to be doneusually twice to complete the job.
Bleeding air from a 911 cooling system doing it 'the old way' as you would a car with the radiator and engine adjacent does not work, or might look like it has worked but the system is riddled with air pockets leading to symptoms such as you have observed.
There are two essential tools to do this and also check for leaks.
1. Vaccum purge kit. Costs arounf £26 from ebay but needs a compressor to create the vaccum.
2. Coolant pressure test kit. Costs around £30+ from ebay. This is a stand alone device which pumps air into the coolinf system to about 15psi and allows you to see if you have a leak or a head gasket failure.
I doubt that in your case it is serious, it just needs a good purging!
Ah, I thought I'd solved it for you
How many times have you topped it up? Have you looked around for the red crusty stuff around coolant pipe junctions?
Sorry
should have taken photo before ! I’ve put 2 x 0.5 Ltr top ups in over 3-400 miles. Have had a look under the lid can’t see anything obvious, hard to look underneath without a ramp , anywhere else I should check in particular ?
Do you have the latest coolant cap? I think the latest is 04 version and it’s cheap at £20.

Quite common up front and easier to get to. I think 911virgin have a video on replacing these, from memory it might require removing the front sub frame and will require a geo upon replacement.
Thanks it’s booked in for a once over next week. Only bought it a couple of weeks back (from a specialist dealer, under warranty) so I should get it covered
