POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My insurance is now due for renewal, 991.2 GT3, currently with classic line, no complaints. This would be the first renewal. Last year I tried Flux - 5x price Vs classic line and Locktons, which I liked service wise (At least at quote stage) but they were 40% more than Classicline. I know some of the track cover has changed with CL, so just need to look at that, but overall, is there anyone else I should be talking to, to get alternative quotes in the experience of anyone on here ? I have agreed value, which is important to me and was an easy process at CL.

POST 2Original post

My turbo s is with admiral. It is 30% cheaper than my older and fraction of the price Cayenne. No track cover ...

POST 3Original post

I would tread carefully with flux. We had a dreadful experience. As soon as we had to unfortunately claim they showed their true colours. Cheap is never best with insurance companies.

POST 5Original post

OP, search for the insurance thread on this sub forum which contains a lot of information I think some use Aviva Private Clients or Porsche Insurance (Chubb). Agreed Value policies somewhat limit who you can approach, mostly requiring brokers. The main bits to look for are whether there are any requirement around tracker or garaging

POST 6Original post

throt said: "Admiral", just not worth the saving What is the issue ? Insurance is a contract. They are not going bust.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks all for info so far. FYI, I popped the details into my Admiral multicar policy and they wanted £180, for c.80 days up to the policy renewal, so if I scale that up it's circa £850, which given there's no agreed value and no track day cover, isn't worth the saving. I'll try a few others, main thing that's a bit of a pain with the current policy is needing a tracker, I find it hard to believe it makes any difference on these, but maybe the stats say otherwise. It adds about £220 per year (porsche vodafone tracker)

POST 8Original post

Jeremy-75qq8 said: What is the issue ? Insurance is a contract. They are not going bust. I initially insured with them but afterwards I wanted to confirm that, if I had an accident and repairs were needed, could I take my car to my OPC for all to be fixed and sorted. Well, I had that conversation and in the end was put through to their "claims department" as the agent on the phone was not very convincing. It turned out, yes, you can use your OPC but, they will check OPC quotes against their own approved body shops, which means the car being ferried to and from each repairer. If Admirals repairer is cheaper than the OPC's, then their words were = " you have to pay the extra to use your chosen OPC if that is what you insist " Again, that was from their claims department so, it put me off and I changed my 992 3RS to Porsche Insurance. Others may have good experiences though but, imo, not worth the risk to save 1100 quid.

POST 9Original post

I have a GTS on order, premiums are in the same ballpark as the GT3 - ~£600-700 with Admiral depending on which package you take. ~£1500 with CL and Locktons. I'm not sure what the latter is buying me in terms of better cover and care, as I've had no problems with Admiral, including a claim more than 10 years ago. Over a period of 5 years the difference is £4500 in premiums and £1800 for tracker install and subscription which is required by the latter two companies. All totaled, a difference of over £6k CL and Locktons also require the car to be in a locked garage (if at home) after 10pm which is before sunset in the summer where I live. Seems unduly onerous, as I'm often in and out of the garage in the summer

Right, i follow...that additional fob - thanks. The acronym threw me and the first results i got online related to the insurers' black box tracking driving style etc. Couldn't believe things were changing that much in the industry at this level! Yes, i vaguely recall being told something at the OPC about how Voda were doing such a poor job to cause PAG to bring it in-house and they chose to drop the fob from the VTS. Was deep in the spec at the time so probably have it muddled.

Hello This thread is perfect timing for me. My first GT3 is coming in December. I have always insured with Admiral and never had issues, including when my parked car (Audi Q3) was crashed into. Protected NCB, courtesy car and fixed without issue at an approved manufacturer bodyshop. Can anyone elaborate on some of the comments above regarding Admiral? Naturally there's a gap between a family wagon versus GT3. Any experiences are welcome! Is there anything else I need to look out for when it comes to insurance terms?

POST 17Original post

My two penneth. Correct that the Porsche VTS has disappeared on the 992.2. The tracker hardware was fitted as standard on previous models and you paid a subscription (via Vodafone) for it to be activated. Your OPC can still offer the service but it’s now £650 for them to fit the hardware + the same subscription fee as before. I recently traded from 992.1 T to 992.2 T. OPC said Porsche stopped fitting hardware as standard as few customers now took up the VTS service, as fewer insurance companies insisted on having one. My experience confirms this. My insurers insisted my previous 718GT4 and the 992.1 T had trackers. No longer a requirement when I changed to 992.2. In fact, the premium also reduced. Had my annual renewal this week (Admiral). Premium has dropped from £900pa to £600pa.

POST 19Original post

Flux halved their renewal price this time, makes you wonder how they make this prices up! Admiral still worked out cheaper with an addition (so now on a multi car policy). FWIW tried to put these cars with my broker who does all the business insurance for me and he couldn’t get near Admiral and in fact has all his families cars with them which makes them a sensible choice to me.

POST 20Original post

I think Admiral are warm to 911’s at the moment, it will change and someone else will pick up the baton. Interested to know if you have to have a tracker with the GT3, I’m paying £445 for my 992T with no tracker, no points, FNC.

POST 21Original post

FWIW, Locktons were the only ones able to provide a quote i could consider and i suspect that's because of a bespoke arrangement they have with an underwriter (Aviva?) that appears to have undercut a number of other agents in this sector. Otherwise, it's four figures that start with a 3.

I've enquired about an S5 Thatcham to be done at the dealership, and it looks like pretty similar costs (at least for the S5 unit) when I do a general Google. The installation may be a higher cost, but I'm guessing not by a ridiculous amount? Do you have to pay an annual subscription for most/all S5 level trackers?

If you have a separate GAP insurance policy in place, I assume a guaranteed value on the 'main' insurance policy is less important. Clearly a load more research to be done.

No it's the other way around. It was standard on the 992.1 but not standard or even a factory option on the 992.2. It's now a dealer install option. I haven't looked at it in great detail but I'd say there's definitely some Porsche tax on the dealer option particularly on the annual subscription which is ~£229 vs £189 for the same Vodafone VTS Plus equivalent system. It doesn't really add up to much for a few years of ownership, but it's a bit like paying £180 for a Porsche 12V charger when you can have an identical CTEK one for £120. The advantage of the Porsche system is that if there is a problem, then you just drop it back to the dealer to fix. Yes there is an annual subscription for all monitored systems, but most have the option of a 3 year subscription which works out a bit cheaper.

All of the usual specialist insurers have had substantially better quotes once you put the excess above £250. So keep that in mind.

"Super helpful, thank you. I hadn't even thought about PPF in the event on a knock". You do need to notify the insurer you have PPF and for Admiral that is shown under the heading "Decorative external items". I first realised this when I had my R8 insured with them under a multi-car policy (cost of insurance for the 2022 V10 plus R8 was £585) and have ensured that this is recorded for my latest car; a 2025 year AMG GT 63 Ultimate (8 months insurance cost £236).

I’ve claimed on a car that had PPF, I hadn’t notified the insurers despite which they paid for the PPF to be replaced. Edited by Cheib on Thursday 6th November 16:34

Thanks for the pointers everyone. One final question from me: my policy runs on my daily January to January, I collect my new car in December. What NCB do I declare to the insurers on the policy for the GT3? I had wondered whether I do temporary insurance for c.2 weeks, and then take out an annual policy when I've banked an additional year of NCB via my other policy.

You do know you can't use NCB on more than one car at a time If the GT3 is your first 2nd, you have 0 NCB until you add each year on with the 2nd car. Or go multicar, which helps Sorry if misread what you were asking

POST 31Original post

IIRC, a number of the specialists don't even take NCB into account sadly.

POST 33Original post

NCB has become a bit of a farce over the years as it can be purchased/protected for an additional premium. You might get a modest discount from your existing insurance company on renewal for an additional year NCB, but when shopping around other companies, the actuaries who assess the risk and determine the premiums are not going to care if you have a protected NCB. They will look at your claims history - 5 years without a claim is very different from 5 years NCB. I was checking premiums on Admiral this morning and 2 years vs 6 years NCB made zero difference to the quote.

This makes the insurance conversation incredibly interesting (read: potentially painful) when I get in touch with insurers tomorrow. Thankfully, as I'm London based, I'm looking at keeping the car in a fully secure car park 24/7. I'm not sure how far it'll go when it comes to premiums, but hopefully it'll be something! Thanks for your help!

You'll get mixed responses back from the underwriters on this but even if you have 24hr porterage, CCTV, security patrols and it's parked under the building with no way through other than via the building core, it is of a lesser standing than a garage. Farcical, i know.

I've just had a quote from Locktons, and I must admit I'm impressed. My original approach was going to be a mix of something like Admiral and a GAP policy. With what Locktons have come back with, it looks like there is around a c.£300/400 premium of going with them. For the added benefits of track cover etc. it feels like a no brainer. Can anyone here comment on their customer service and what they're like in the unfortunate scenario of having to make a claim?

Was with Locktons with my 991.2 gt3 a few yr back and had to claim for a new front windscreen. I used my OPC which Locktons had no issue with it. Screen replaced, I paid my OPC and then Locktons reimbursed me quickly so after myself sending them the invoices. Smooth operation then.

Emailed Lockton this morning as also in the process of renewal: "Regarding Track days, non PCGB track days are not automatically covered as standard. We can add them on midterm, based on the track days meeting the underwriter’s criteria. The maximum of non PCGB track days you can do is 2 per policy term. Providing the track day meets the underwriter’s criteria, they do charge a one-off fee of £170 per track day." Unless you want to do all PCGB days this does not look like good value.

At the moment I self insure for track days ... it also helps to eek out the mileage limit since trackday miles should not ? count ? However, Locktons was recommended to me ... I've save a lot of money being with Admiral at the moment. They also ask for accident free in the last three years ... I had a roundabout bump almost four years ago so this also helped me (though I did tell them !). PCGB trackdays are in my experience very well run ... fewer of the banzai and race car drivers than seem to frequent the RMA days even though Leyton tries hard to manage "any" bad behaviour ...

POST 42Original post

No claims make a difference for kids insurance. For me ( 60 ) nil no claims or 10 years. Same premium. If you have accidents then they will of course bump it up.

I've been with Locktons the past 2 years, they were the cheapest of the specialist insurers. But when you also factor in Vodafone tracker subscription and PCGB membership, it's working out at £1,800 for a 130k agreed value. Changed this time around to Admiral, £900 (but no agreed value).

I don't understand how you guys are getting such good quotes. Admiral have quoted me £2200 for a 992.2 GTS. I'm mid 50s, no points and no claims within the last 5 years, loads of protected NCB. I have a drive but no garage

POST 45Original post

My 992.1 turbo s is with admiral. 59 Surrey. No points. No fault accident 5 years ago. £1000 ish - the total for the 911 and Cayenne is £2200 and for some reason I really don't follow the Cayenne is about £1200 of that Multi car is worth about £200 of discount. It is garaged. I have never asked for a quote as non garaged. I did put on the highest excess they allow which I think is voluntary £500

Im 41 with 3 points for speeding, 0 NCB and in a pretty bad postcode in N.Ireland! That being said - annual mileage of 4,000 miles, car stored in an garage and £500 excess. Edited by Digester Man on Saturday 15th November 07:41

Edited by Digester Man on Saturday 15th November 07:41 That's even more annoying lol. Maybe it’s the garage that makes all the difference. Perhaps I can buy one if those plastic porta cabin things and slap it on the drive to use as a garage!

I’m insured with Admiral on a multi car policy for my 992.1T. Locktons gave me an insanely high quote of many thousands above Admiral they were also quite arrogant to deal with, citing the fact that I hadn’t owned a car like this before made me a total liability. I also don’t want or need track cover and I’m a member of PCGB. Admiral noted PPF on the policy but won’t give me an agreed cost. They also don’t require the VTS and those crazy large card things you have to carry around. Any recommendations for GAP insurance providers?

POST 50Original post

This is the first time I'm insuring a car like this, so apologies if this is a daft question. Track day insurance, I assume this can be done on a one-off basis specifically for the track you're going to on a specific date? After a quick Google, I'm not seeing this on FAQs. I assume so obvious they neglect to write it in black and white, but here I am as I'm not 100% sure. I'm currently in the Admiral versus Locktons quandry as a few others in this thread. Admiral looks like it comes with far fewer stipulations. I can pay for Admiral, a separate gap insurance policy and still come out approximately £1k on top compared to a Locktons policy. I won't track the car regularly, so if it exists, I anticipate doing a per track day insurance is surely the best approach.

I've used Moris for standalone track day cover. https://www.insuremytrackday.com/

If it helps, here's my current experience in discussing trackday insurance with Classicline (currently thinking about who to renew with). PCGB trackdays, up to 6 covered per year within the policy, other trackdays £135 per day (subject to approved operators, which is fine by me). Overall, Classic line is about £300 more than admiral this coming year, but does come with the trackday benefit, which I will use. Other cost with CL is the tracker at about £270, which I see as an overhead rather than benefit, but still means I get agreed value and 6 PCGB trackdays for about £600 more than admiral multicar, which in the round is decent value.

Super helpful, thank you. I must admit the stipulations Locktons apply, including a steering wheel lock (even in a secure locked car park), feel excessive. I need to call CL to understand more about what they’ll quote me. Is there anyone else out there worth considering? I haven’t tried Flux, and have a quote with Admiral ready to go. It seems like it’s one of those four, and that’s about it.
