Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I pulled the bulkhead panel off my 2.9 Cayman to inspect and try and work out some other issues. To my displeasure, I noticed oil seepage from what I'm assuming is the passenger-side cam shaft plug (brown plug on lower right of engine). I also noticed a lot of sludge around my drivers-side timing chain tensioner, although that was dry and crusty. I've done all the reading I can and I don't see any mentions of leaks on 9A1s, but I do see that M9X cars had issues with crankcase pressure due to AOS failures. The car only has 67K on the clock, and I have no AOS symptoms, so I'm not ready to assume that's the issue. Does anyone know the procedure for testing crankcase pressure on 9A1? I'd like to avoid replacing either the AOS or the plug without knowing why it's leaking. I'd also like to avoid having it pop out on the road LOL. Thanks in advance!

POST 2Original post

I cannot address the 9A1 directly but pressure is pressure. For my 07 Cayman S I have modified the oil fill cap to have a nipple, which I attach to a manometer. This will directly read the state of affairs in the crankcase. Mine develops approx. negative 4 in/H2O, at idle. Of course, any positive value is a sign of something not right. Search youtube for Tony Callas, where he has some professional videos, including one on crankcase issues and using a manometer.

POST 3Original post

Thanks for the advice. I may have stumbled on some baseline in/H20 readings for the 9A1, so I'll give those a shot.
