Hey All, anyone ever install an aftermarket (from
AliExpress
) PKE/push button start kit. I have 2006
Boxster
987.1
and having trouble getting the car to start when the ignition button is pressed. Attached and harnesses and wires as direct. Transferred the circuit board (soldered the corresponding wire) and immo chip to the relay box. So, now the car recognizes the new fobs, doors lock and unlock when either pressed or you approach the car. Problem I'm having is the car won't start. You can here the box clicking but nothing is happening. Something it not letting the module override the ignition key. so, not sure that to do. Any help would be appreciate.
thanks,
G
I haven't any experience with that kit, perhaps post photos of the instructions/wiring setup so we can get an idea of where things might have gone awry.
Cheers,
Julian
Like Julian, I'm having a bit of an issue understanding just what you've done, but if I had to take a guess what your issue is, I'd suggest you research the "immobilizer".
There's three forms of key security built into the key and car.
First is the key itself. In order for the ignition switch to unlock the key has ro be cut and matched to the lock assembly.
Second is the RFLink, the buttons you press to lock and unlock the car. These really only serve that function, they have no role in preventing unauthorized starting of the vehicle. That function is up to:
Third and final: The immobilizer. This is an electronic component that prevents the engine from starting. In order to disable the immobilizer and start the car, it must receive a code (similar to an RFID code.). Thats what I'm guessing you're missing. This code is burned to a tiny chip thats glued into the keys at the factory.
Many people replace keys and throw out the old ones never realizing they've thrown out their ability to start the car.
If you still have the old key(s) you have to remove the chip and glue it in the new key(s). Its a small black plastic cube about 1/2"x3/8"x1/4" (maybe a bit smaller. You can separate it from the old key using an eXacto knife or box cutter. It can then be glued into the new key and the car should start.
Adding additional buttons will achieve nothing besides buggering up the car.
Good luck! You might go to the new members forum and introduce yourself, we're pretty friendly here
BTW, when you wrote:
can you expand on this a bit?
deilenbergeris spot on about the immobilzer/fob issue. I have had nothing but trouble getting new keys made, fobs programmed and making everything ‘shake hands’. Went to a very good, top notch locksmith and as soon as heard
Porsche
, his face dropped. Says he can and will do almost any car‘s keys and fobs, but stopped doing
Porsche
years ago due to the fact that he has run into problems every time. Last time I needed to have a key made, because the used one I bought only came with one key fob, it took me visits to several indy shops to find one that could complete the process. Very frustrating.
